The Congress strongly condemned MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi for his provocative remarks against Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on microblogging site Twitter.
"Asaduddin Owaisi has no business advising the Telangana Congress president on what he should speak and how he should protest against the CAA. The Congress is a national party with clarity on issues, and its leaders are highly capable of handling agitations," TPCC Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail said.
"Owaisi can continue to mislead the people through his role as brand ambassador of Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao. But he should not now act as a spokesperson for Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, too. His efforts to distract attention from the main issue are clear," Abdullah Sohail added.
He also said that the Congress had taken the right decision in declining Owaisi's invitation to participate in the Nizamabad meeting.
He asked why Owaisi did not invite his close friend and Minister K T Rama Rao for the Nizamabad meeting. Further, he asked as to why MIM was not holding joint protests with TRS in other areas.
"Everyone knows that Owaisi has been trying to sabotage the anti-CAA protests in Telangana. He made all Muslim leaders surrender before KCR, and the meeting at Pragathi Bhavan was only meant to ensure that they would not do anything that displeases the BJP government at the Centre," he said.
