Reiterating his party's support to Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu's
indefinite hunger strike, Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday said that Naidu's effort will be etched in history books for championing the cause of hapless farmers.
Talking to media persons after calling on the fasting former chief minister, Karat said that the TDP chief's fast will ensure that the farmers in the state get justice.
Karat said that the relief packaage announced by the state government is woefully short of the expectations of hapless farmers who have been reeling under successive natural calamaties.
He demanded that the government release Rs. 10,000 per hectare for the damaged crop.
Praising the 66-year-old TDP chief for taking up the indefinite hunger strike at his age, Karat said that this was an example of his selfless service to the cause of farmers.
He called on the farmers and party workers to rise in support of Naidu and ensure that the state and central government bow down to their demands.
CPM state secretary B V Raghavulu was also accompanied Karat on his visit to see the TDP chief.
