A businessman from Malakpet area of the Old City tried to commit suicide today by self-immolation in front of Pragathi Bhavan, the CM's camp office.
However his bid to kill himself was foiled by the security personnel deputed at the camp office.
The person has been identified as Naseeruddin, a footwear business owner.
He said that he had no option but to commit suicide as he didn't have any money to look after his family or himself due to the ongoing lockdown.
He said that he was suffering from severe financial problems ever since his shop needed to be shut two months back due to the imposition of the lockdown.
The security personnel later called the Panjagutta police and handed him over to them.
The Panjagutta police station SHO confirmed that the person had resorted to the extreme step as he indeed had financial problems.
Naseeruddin urged the state government to come to his rescue by extending financial help to him.
