In a shocking incident, 5 members of a family attempted self-immolation, leaving 3 dead and 2 battling for life, under the Sadashivpet police station limits in Medak district on Sunday.
According to Sub-inspector P Krishnaiah, financial problems are said to be the reason behind the family's extreme step. Narsingh Rao, along with wife Bhagyalakshmi and their 3 children Malleshwari (5), Shiva Shanker (3) and Madhu Varshita (2), resorted to immolating themselves.
Police suspect that the parents doused their children and themselves with kerosene, and set themselves afire.
Bhagyalaxmi died on the spot, while the other 4 family members were rushed to Gandhi Hospital. Shiv Shankar and Madhu Varshita died at Gandhi Hospital on Sunday while undergoing treatment.
Narsingh Rao and his elder daughter Malleshwari are presently battling for life. Narsingh Rao is a petty businessman, who used to go around selling clothes that he carried on his bicycle. He is said to have been facing economic hardships after sales dropped drastically in the past few months.
