A city court on Wednesday granted the police two-day custody of Hindu religious leader Swamy Kamalananda Bharti in connection with the case registered against him for making an alleged hate speech.
Swamy, who was
arrested by the Special Investigation Team of City Police on January 13 and sent to Cherlapalli Jail for 14 days, will be questioned by the police for two days, from Thursday.
He was arrested for making certain derogatory and provocative remarks against Muslims during a meeting held at Indira Park on January 9, to condemn the alleged hate speech of MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.
Two different cases were registered against him, following a complaint lodged by Muslim organisations. He has been booked under charges of promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, and of committing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony.
Meanwhile, the court also rejected Swamy Kamalananda's bail petition. (INN)
