FOB's Vs. ABCD's

by -:- DeSi fLy ChiCA -:- » Sat Jun 05, 2004 5:38 am

I think Fob's are way cooler than Abcd's...

they have their values and know bout their culture and stuff...n they can always get "americanized"...

while Abcd's dont know jack...and act all ' i'm too good fo tht ' etc...

example bein 'Question' who said...

"Well i always had problems when i came to hyd before b/c i wass

hi-fish stley only mineral water ewww that's so much pollution god bugs everywhere..."

also...

"There are malls india? like malls like here or just like one big clothing store?"

that is jus soo stuuuupid....no offense Question

being a desi...u know nothin about your own country....that is dumb....

'C'=Confused is soo damn right fo such people..they ARE confused bout themselves...

ABCD's and FOB's are each cool in their own way...each one is brought up in different cultures so their behaviour is understandable. ABCD's are not Indians, they are just americans of Indian ethnicity, so its not appropriate to call them confused or blame them for not knowing our desh.

There are some bad apples on either side - abcd's and FOB's - ABCD's making fun of FOB's and Americanized FOB's making fun of other FOB's.

I think 'question' is not ABCD. In one of the threads, IIRC, he said he's been living there for last 12 yrs.

And Lubin....I dont think we need a thread for insults, please restrain from throwin personal insults and calling names, pun is ok, but not serious insults. We dont need a flame fest here.

Fobs

by Aquarian81 » Sat Jun 05, 2004 11:05 am

FOB's: Fresh off the Boat.

This term is usually given to a person who has newly came to America. Some FOB's are just too funny man. Especially the ones at University who bring there own lunch in a Tiffin box......you know the typical steel boxes?!?LOL

I would definately prefer a FOB to an ABCD. There is nothing more annoying than an Indian person who tries NOT to acknowledge their culture and heritage. I especially cant stand Indian's who change their names, seriously whats up with that? I personally call them seell-outs. When goreh's have a hard time pronouncing my name, I keep correcting them until they get it right, and if they still dont get it right and they ask if I have a nickname or a shorter version, I say "If you can say Arnold Shwarzenegger, then you can definately say mine"

by Question » Sat Jun 05, 2004 2:30 pm

Well hello,

It's intresting to see that someone started a topic with me as center of attraction, well thanks for that haha anyways i have been in this country for the past 12 and a half years. I came to his country when i was 7 well almost 8 anyways that's that.

Desiflychica... you forgot to paste the later part i wrote in that I said "NOW THAT I HAVE CHANGED i am pretty sure I will enjoy it"

I do agree i was really strong headed and didn't care about our indian culture and all that.. just didn't give damn abt anything to do with indian. But i have changed in the past 3yrs A LOT! when i mean a LOT I MEAN A LOT... i just got a sudden intrest on our culture and all that and learned a lot about my roots and everything espically SPEAKING AND TALKING in telugu also understand telugu LITERATURE better than some people in HYD i am proud of that! So all i would like to say I am not what i was before i am changed into a complete new person so I happy with who i am ... really WELL mixed with my american/indian culture.

Coming to the point of ABCD's and FOB's... I do agree there are a lot of _ out there ( I was one of them) who say eww india and all that crap who don't know their roots.. BUT there ARE A LOT OF PPL I KNOW who have BEEN in AMERICA for a LONG TIME but still ARE totally into OUR RICH CULTURE..... there a lot of them who are pretty mixed with both cultures and stuff so don't get the idea that all of them are fedup!!!

Also i have seen some so called FOB'S who are messed UP!

So as there are good people in both sides.... It's just how a person is not where they have been raised or where they have been....

Hey Aquarian81, one small correction. A-Z is the alphabet. There are 26 letters in the alphabet. So your name has 6 letters of the alphabet.

No offense meant pal. :-)

Bimbette, my bad.............and to think I was an honor student in Advanced Literature

Johnny boy, none of the above. I will give you guys clues, some are dead give-aways:

1. Ends with an 'A'

2. Sounds like a face wash you get in America.

3. Beggining 4 letters sound like a party ruled by a dictator :P

4. Last 4 letters sound like an alcoholic drink. :o

Okay, may the guessing begin!

FOB vs. ABCD

by Jaan » Sun Jun 06, 2004 7:31 pm

The grass is always greener on the other side. I don't think Fobs are cooler than ABCD's. I have seen extremes in both cases! And, the best person is the one who, whether he/she be a FOB/ABCD first, immersed into the other side too. You know, best of both worlds.
