last day at work

by mark » Thu Jun 30, 2005 7:26 pm

I've got a few minutes left of my last ever day as a TCSer. Been in the company almost 3 years, 1 month in Trivandrum, 4 in Chennai, 1.5 years in London, and 9 months in Hyderabad.

Without a doubt, it is my time in Hyd that has had the greatest impact on me. Thanks very much to all of you who i have met, online and in person, for making my stay here a time i will look back on with fond memories.

I mentioned to my colleagues today that when I was in Chennai I was drooling over the prospect of going home, looking forward to all the things that I could get back home that was not possible in Chennai (proper steak, greasy fry in the mornings, a reasonable air temperature, lack of flying biting insects)

Things are much different now that I'm leaving Hyd. I'm thinking of all the things I will miss, the gentle friendliness of the Hyderabadi people, the tastebud-blowing food, being able to eat out frequently, having the mobility my bike gave me, and that feeling of being someone who was doing something slightly different.

I'm going to be Hyderabad's best advertiser back home, if you see an increase in the number of Irish expats and tourists here that'll mean I was able to properly convey how amazing your city is. I wish I could spend more time here, and I may return later in life to live here again (i've never said that about anywhere i've lived with the exception of my birthplace)

My last day in Hyd will most likely be monday 11th July, hope i can meet up with some of you guys before i leave. If not, i should be back next year as a tourist anyhow. :D

Anyhow, this isn't a goodbye thread as i'm still here for some time, so don't wish me off just yet. It's also not a Hyd review thread, I have plans to write a Hyderabad review from the eyes of a drunken farang next week.

So really it's just a last day at work thread, i'm happy and feel the need to announce it to the world :D

Nice thread mark! Hyd definitely has that effect on most ppl. I was thinking I'll wish you off, but since you specifically mentioned not to do it, I won't now :)

P.s.:Are you selling your bike?

This is absolute arrogance and back stabbing. You are spitting over the City and office which has provided you shelter for 04 nice months.

4 shitty months actually, where we were never told when we were going home, never given any idea of what our roles were going to be onsite, and never had any help or guidance from any of the _ on the project. so kindly go f*ck yourself.

Its not arrogant of Mark to tell what he feels about TCS Chennai. If he liked Hyderabad better than Chennai, he's free to spit it out. Its obvious he had a much better time in Hyderabad.

Mr. Mark,

I have reached New Delhi today. I saw your topic and then further comments that followed.

In an ONLINE PUBLIC FORUM like fullhyderabad.com, recently I am seeing the trend of abusing the Chennai City very badly.

Freedom of expression is not abusing particular city.

I suspect whether this forum is antichennai.com

I accept Hyderabad is good place to settle. It has good public transport system, Good restaurants. People are soft (Not arrogant). Even in night hours ladies can roam with out fear. (Mahatma’s Dream)

But I want to put forward my points straightforwardly.

Coming to your point, Hyderabad too has many many mosquitoes. Daily I was forced to use both coils and mats combined. The traffic sense among the city commuters is worst. For these issues we cant abuse Hyderabad.

In Chennai MetroThere are good restaurants both Veg and Non Veg are available . IF YOU CANT FIND AND FRUSTRATED IT’S YOUR PROBLOM. Don’t fool yourself by abusing.

I had part of my education in Chennai. I know the City. In my school days the locals accepted me VERY WELL . People from allover the country has started settling in Chennai slowly. ARE THEY FOOLS? Chennai City has given shelter, house, job, to so many Telugus (even my relatives), Malayalies and even North Indians. They are living prosperously and happily in that land (CHENNAI). I know persons who have sold all their properties in Punjab and permanently settled in Chennai for business and other reasons. They speak very good Tamil.Out of all the points mentioned by you only point, which I can accept, is the Climate. The humidity and the heat are horrible.

Today I landed in New delhi. The condition around the New Delhi railway station is horrible. The dirty condition of roadsides. Still men drive rickshaws. Roughly speaking people. Still I wont abuse New Delhi. I am shaping up to the condition, and try to love this new place.

So try to love a new place and get shaped up.

Don’t show the fashion of vomiting grudge against any city.

Even now, if you are adamant you may not be a decent person.

And finally dont waste too much liquor by the weekend for abusing Chennai.

It is not good for health.

reread my post. then read it again. now try and comprehend that i wasn't bashing Chennai. I was saying that for many reasons i didn't enjoy my time there as much as Hyd. If i had been in Delhi, Bombay, or even Hyd 3 years ago I wouldn't have enjoyed it either! All the things I mentioned in my post that couldn't be gotten easly in Chennai can't be had in Hyd either, I just don't miss them now.

I wasn't comparing the two cities, I was comparing my experience of the two cities, 2 years apart (i'm a very different person now, more independant, etc). I was thanking the people here for the good experience i've had in Hyd, and I realise it's not Chennai's fault that I didn't enjoy it. If you read my second post you'll see it was the experience i had there that I hated, not the people, the city, or the smell of shit every 100 meters(jk)

I've been back to Chennai volunteraly since then and I had a great time. Anyway, my point was, Hyd is an easy place to live, even for a complainer like me. and i'm going to miss it.

Now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to go register http://www.antichennai.com, so I can have a place to bitch about the auto-wallahs, the smell, the humidity, the (horrible) marina beach, the terrible public transport, the pollution, the Cooum (most polluted river in TN!), the powercuts, the water shortages, the general feeling of being in the worst place on this earth..

don't take the last paragraph too seriously mate, just winding u up. prescribe yourself some benzos, and chill out.

Hi Mark,

Chennai is a traditional south indian METRO.

PROBLEM
auto-wallahs

SOLUTION If you regularly use autos you come to know the standard rates.

PROBLEM
HUMIDITY

SOLUTION No SOLUTION

PROBLEM the
(horrible) marina beach

No I dont accept this. See the beaches in places like PURI (regrets to oriyan gentlemen) then you will salute Marina
SOLUTION Try to roam around in Edwards Elliots Beach. (Besant Nagar Beach)

PROBLOM
the terrible public transport,

SOLUTION Yes it is crowded. BUT CHENNAI CITY TRANSPORT RATES ARE CHEAPEST IN INDIA

PROBLEM
the pollution

SOLUTION I dont accept this. Even Metros like New Delhi and Non Metros like Hyderabad are more polluted. You cant help it. This is a City factor.

PROBLEM
the Cooum (most polluted river in TN!),

SOLUTION No body has solution for this.

PROBLEM
the powercuts, the water shortages

SOLUTION Even Cities like Hyderabad has these problem

PROBLEM the general feeling of being in the worst place on this earth..

SOLUTION No Solution

Because this idea has originated from the deviated mind with grudges

Even though Mark did not intend for this thread to turn into one where someone starts defending some place, sadly it has. Mark said all that in good humour.

Sri, I have not met Mark. But I am certain that he said all that in jest. And, if his experience at Chennai was bad, it was bad. There is no point in saying it was good when it was not. This is not the thread where we have a Hyderabad vs. Chennai duel (Frankly, what's the point? We Hydies don't like to kick men when they are down anyway. :)). If you want one, please start a thread and we will all be happy to come at your throat. :D

On to topic now. Mark, we won't wish you goodbye. Not now not ever. You have written some of the most interesting and humourous posts over the last few months, and that has, sadly, made me expect more of this forum's post quality. So, dare you go anywhere.

Wherever you are in the world, find yourself a computer and an internet connection (these things can be found even in Antarctica) and log on to the forums and post. 'Cause if you don't the devil is going to come and take your soul.

Best of luck Mark, and don't fall into the Irish curse of alcohol, guilt, depression and tragedy. :D
