Air India Crash at Mangalore Today

160 people (names given in list below) were killed when an Air India Express Boeing 737, flight number IX-892 crashed around 6 a.m. at a ravine near the Bajpe airport near the city of Mangalore in the state of Karnataka, India. Most of those killed were Indians, comprising mainly from the Dubai diaspora. Of the 167 passengers on board the aircraft, only seven survived, mostly with severe burn injuries or fractures and have been sent to the Kasturba Medical College Hospital in Mangalore.

The survivors of the Indian air crash are: Putturismail Abdulla, Joel Pratap DSouza , G.K. Pradeep , Krishnan Koolikkunnu , Mayankutty K.P, Ummer Farook Mohammed and Sabrina Nasrinhuq.

The cause of today’s air crash at the Bajpe airport is yet to be known. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India has ordered a complete inquiry into the early morning crash. Initial statements by the Indian airport authorities suggest that the Serbian-origin British pilot, Capt Zlatko Glusicapilot didn’t even give a distress signal before it crashed into the forested ravine and blew up in a ball of fire. Bad weather owing to incessant rains over the past two days is believed to be a contributing factor into the plane crash. However, Airports Authority of India chairman V P Agarwal claimed the visibility at the airport to be a more-than-adequate 7 KM at the time of the crash. Search operations to recover the black box is in full swing.

The Air India IX-892 Flight was arriving from Dubai with 160 passengers and six crew members. Among the four infants on board the fateful Air India flight, only one survived.

Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh expressed his heartfelt condolence towards the loss of so many lives in the air crash and announced compensation for the victims’ families.

oh my god!!i am not really aware of this disaster..do you have any recordings of any video coverage or news? i am really totaly in shock with the number of victims it has caused..
