Sex - What's love got to do with it???

by s » Sun May 15, 2005 2:18 pm

I've been wondering, does sex have to be tied to the concept of love? Is it in violation of some universal morals if it's not based on love?

P.S. This is not a discussion about whether sex is for recreation or procreation, I think that debate's been settled by 5000 years of human empirical evidence, people overwhelmingly do it for both purposes.

Mean to add a cute poll but forgot to. The two options were going to be

Sex and love: hand in glove!

Sex is for fun: can be had by anyone!

sex hasn't got a thing to do with love

it could have a lot to do with possession though

You'd think the word sex in the topic would incite more attention. It wasn't a ploy to grab some posts, but you'd think it would have that effect whether or not that was the intention. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

may be the sheer confusion of 'talking about sex without talking dirty' is the reason for this silence ?!!

Dirty talk belongs in the bedroom, or wherever else you choose to get it on, it's better left out of public forums :)

Notice how my message has been carefully crafted to avoid eliciting silly responses like the one you just gave. I said wherever "you" choose to get it on with your girlfriend or boyfriend, not me.

IMO, sex is both for pleasure and procreation....pleasure all of the time and procreation strictly when necessary. of corz, under some conditions like forced intercourse/rape it becomes a painful ordeal rather than fun, atleast for the "victim".

for ppl who argue that "ooparwala" made sex for procreation only, i'd like to ask them why did "He" enable orgasm, if no pleasure was intended...??!!

good topic s...! :)

short of sounding outrageous, let me deliver the truth. Or atleast how it seems to me that the world goes by : Love doesnt exist ! sex is a perpetual want for males, and an occasional want for females (going by the number of sexual gamets that they produce) and something that is used as a weapon by females. All this love-mumbo-jumbo is crap talk that is practiced by (a) females wanting to procastinate sex (b) males wanting to get in females

Sick that god intended us to be this way. :D

I don't know what the big deal is. I think love is unnatural to have as a prerequiste for sex. It is unnatural because the very purpose of you and I being on this planet today is procreation. We need to propogate the species. That is the natural course. Love or not, that is one duty that we have to discharge. Love only comes in the way of it. If love happens, good. But all that shit about women wanting to meet the right guy before doing it is over-rated.

But I learnt a truth very early in my life. Never argue with a woman. So, there. leave it at that.

Here we go again...

It really depends on the influencing factors specially when one is young & if the same influences continue as you grow, ideas get imprinted. So, for some sex without love is unimaginable but for others they could be mutually exclusive. Oh yes, I also believe, there could be love without sex. Not necessarily platonic but by choice, morals, loyalty whatever you call it.

So, if you have grown up with Bollywood influence in conjunction with traditional family values and the same being echoed by your moral instructions teacher, no doubt it will be all about love followed hopefully by marriage and then and only then followed by sex. It may suck without the filmy style music and all but hey you got there in the end :P

No thanks to all those discharging their duties more than required, we have more population than required to maintain our race

I beg to differ. Love does exist and the only way one will ever know that is when he/she truly falls in love.

The want and need for sex goes both ways. Always. Its not like women feel like "doing it" occasionally. And sex is used as a weapon by women, you say? Hmm..maybe. Just like how men use the word "love" to get women in their beds.

 IMO, love is a natural emotion that is suppossed to lead to sex. even amopng non-human animals, the act of courtship surely leads to an emotion like 'love' which makes the female choose her mate from a crowd of males trying to attract her attention.

as far as humans are concerned...well...love or not, sex n orgasm are two of the best tranquilizers and stress busters. nothing wrong or sinful in sex for recreation....we are actually improving our health. think of it as an exercise! :D

I personally believe love and sex to be almost sacred. I treat it that way.

One-night-stands and casual sex is no remedy for stess-relief, take up gardening or knitting!!

Re: Sex - What's love got to do with it???

by mustt_mustt » Thu May 19, 2005 8:02 pm

S,

Love can be symbolized, sex or sexual intercourse cannot be.

Love is as much a symbolic experience as it is a visceral one. We can symbolize love by using, to give a simple example, metaphors, but also experience it as a rush of adrenalin or rapid beating of the heart when one is with one's lover. Yet, it is socially conditioned despite the description of it as 'falling in love.' We are taught to love people and nature around us. We experience different ways of loving others - God, parents, siblings, partners, neighbours etc. In that sense, we perform the roles that we inhabit socially.

Nice one must_mustt. And I agree with Alexis that one-night-stands and the like are no way helpful in releasing stress!(infact in some cases they add to it!). I believe Love is very important before jumping into a physical relationship. Now thats an issue of morality, I agree. But morality also what differentiates us humans from animals! Wonder why sex is seen mostly as means to satiate oneself. Ofcourse procreation is important (Believe me..with the rate at which India and China are producing babies..we neednt really be worried about proliferation of our species! :D )

P.S Frankly, I think it would be interesting to discuss "Love-What's sex gotta do with it?" !!

I THINK...THEREFORE I AM.
