Names of different kinds of patang

by ilayaraja_fan » Tue Dec 07, 2004 2:11 pm

Hello all,

When I was in Hyd, among other things, this time of the year was, and I think it very much still is, the patang season. I vividly remember those days when we used to go to Gulzar house to get those special maanja's, charkha's and patang's :) The names of these were/are very colorful and I could remember only the following

patang's

naamamdaar

guddidaar

doredaar

maanja

dheel

kheench

gandhak

Please add to this list

If such a discussion has taken place already, I would appreciate of someone could point me to that

thanks much!

You seem to have been an avid patang-baaz, Akhil!

People used to notice my tan everytime I blinked (bcoz my eyelids would be white and the rest of my face would be dark).

And you know of the times, when the patang would be high in the sky and you needed to go to the loo desperately?

  yeh fortunately we were rather big a group of kids so never had a problem of that sort. but the fight for the kites and tearing them apart in a meri-nahi-to-kisiki-nahi style was fun too.

Wo to kabhi bhool nahi sakta.

There were also the times when I was small and down in the pecking order, everytime I caught a kite, it was either torn, or snatched away.

Looking back, I learnt a lot of thing by flying kites.
