by asli_badmash » Sun Mar 21, 2004 10:27 am

What are the most happening places in the city these days ?

Please divide your suggestions among the following categories ...

- Pubs - Where people come for a drink, music and gup-shup ??

- Places to Eat - Places to hog. Places to dine ??

- Coffee places - Where people can sit and read a book while having coffee, meetup with folks and just hang out. ??

- Art galaries - I love to go to art galaries . Are there any in Hyderabad ? ?

- Romantic Places - You know the kind where where a guy and a girl are sitting and trying to connect, people dont bothers them much ??

- Biker pubs - Are there any ??

- Dhabbas - Not too far from the city ??

Looks like you are coming from another planet :) Many of the things u ask for aren't there, but let's see.........

Pubs - If you are looking for a peaceful evening, u can try places like Ten Downing Street, Underdeck etc. If you would rather go for a 'death metal' experience, I would suggest One Flight Down - dont take any ladies with you to OFD :)

Places to eat - i'll pass this qstn coz i'm not a 'food' person

Coffee places - I would've come up with a list, but you say you want to sit there n read a book (as in, spend hours sitting there). I'm not sure about that. If what I believe is right, you should finish your coffee and leave, in all the coffee bars around town.

Art Gallery - Who / what is an art gallery?

Romantic places - LOL. Try sitting at Necklace road or Tankbund. You'll be harried by vendors selling tea, soft drinks, and anything under the planet. Then you'll have friendly visitations by eunuchs, cops, beggars....... Once I was sitting with my wife at around 8.00pm in a lonely stretch in the necklace road lawns, and there was a biker who stopped n shouted at us, "Yevaru...... etc etc." and finally warned, "Mummy ko bolungaa" :) Concerned moral police, to add to the list :)

Bikers' pubs / Dhabbas - Excuse me :)

Great places to hangout would be the Irani Cafes - no one would bother you, even if you decide to spend your life there :)

LOL, I had that experience on tankbund. I think I already posted this. One fine evening I was sitting on on tankbund wtih my girlfriend and we were watching buddha statue at sunset. I turned to my friend to say something and when I turned back buddha was missing and this woman with a baby in her arms appeared in front of me with the sun forming an aura around her! She said that we will have beautiful children (one dozen!) if I give her money and one rupee was not enough for her. for 10 mins she didnt leave us and my friend, annoyed and embrassed, almost gave her 50 Rs, the first note that came out of her purse. I stopped her and gave 10 bucks instead, to the beggar and got rid of her. Damn, she ruined our evening, my first date. We sat there for 30 min and of that I spent 20 min driving away vendors and beggars.

Secret lake doesnt have this problem, atleast 2 yrs back it didnt have this problem, and the silent valley side of the secret lake is the best place.

For Pubs, Restaurants, Coffee Shops, Art Galleries - look no further than the FullHyd site...u got the best listed! quite a few Lounge bars sprouting everywhere these days.

Biker Pubs? what r they?

Dhabhas - too numerous to count. look at Medchal highway off secbad or the Bangalore highway off Zoo road. My favourite: Sher e Punjab at Diamond Point, Sikh Road, Secbad...very tasty, affordable, clean and only place i found where u get Sarson Ka Saag 365 days of the year!

few other places to hang-out/have fun/romance: Prasad's IMAX (multiplex, IMAX, gaming arcades, food, shopping, hangout), Secret Lake, Runway9 (Go-karting, pool, archery), Alleygator (Bowling, Pool), Lifestyle/Shoppers Stop (shopping, girl watching!), good ol' Sangeet (movies, yummy paratha rolls), Ocean Park and the latest for the last: Snow World (beat the heat...play in real snow!)

I cant think of anymore now. Once i do, i'll post it here.[/b]

Fine... Let me define some of the categories..

Biker Pubs - Where people who ride their bikes togather get to and share a drink or two(any kind.. soft or hard) and chill for a while before breaking up. This place is also inhabited by other biker groups. Its a biker haven. Maybe, I am defining an Irani, but I would like a quiter place where women are allowed too.

Art Galleries - Is the place where you catch up with what happening in the art world. This is where you see some serious art and meet people trying to pass their dabbles as modern art. I have met some interesting people at galleries. I think CCMB. Has one! Dont know for sure.

The Coffee place where people dont bother you when you want to lounge around and read book while having a coffee is on the same road as "Anand Theater". I dont remember the name but the people there are cool. I like the palce. They make a nice cup of Hot Chocolate. They even let you hook your laptop into their power supply and work if you like to.

What do people (young folk) in HYD do for fun on Weekends ? Apart from

- Visiting Relatives

- Shopping

~Badmash~

PS: I have been out of town/country for some time, so do please educate me.

well, there are lots of people who do just that...and u forgot the #1 traditional Hyderabadi timepass - MOVIES man....how did u leave it out??!!

these days the YUPPIES (Young Upwardly-mobile Professionals) n DINKs (Double Income, No Kids) hang out with friends at parties, Pubs n Lounge Bars, or drive out to resorts at the outskirts on weekends.

Many also cover the places i already listed in my previous post.

  by your definition, every pub is "Biker Pub" here...just take a look at the parking lot!

there is no distinct "Biking" culture in India as yet. Bikes are more a basic means of transport, unlike in US, where it stands for a lifestyle. Been out of India very long, buddy???

I think u are talking of Qwikies Coffee Pub...nice comfy sofas to lounge around the whole day! almost all coffee shops allow people to sit and relax as long as they want...and u can take your girl to those places too.

Visit a Resort, also

by Happy Hyderabadi » Mon Mar 22, 2004 12:43 pm

I used to go to Parks, one with a Temple in a Corner. I visited a new Resort, too, towards the North of the City.

But, I had to retreat to avoid seeing "Encounters of Embarrassings / Embracings" between (hopefully) honourable Relations or "Companions-on-Contract", under the Walls of the Temple or inside Bowers in the Garden.

Tank Bund, too, had to be given up, to avoid being surrounded and hit by the "Tree Tall Columns of Insects over Tall Trees" and the nececessity to keep the nose pinched or clipped to avoid savouring the varied flavours / smells / stinks ...

However, a new Family Resort, "Mount Opera", has come up beyond Ramoji Film City. One may try this!

:D :D
