Why is America advanced, a superpower, the richest?? And why we are like this?? Why does everybody want to go to America???
Why can\'t India become like America??? What do we need to do for that??

Because Americans beleive in freedom and enterprice. And also they learn to pay attention to law in every spear. Mostly their buerocracy is uncurrupted. For example If u r caught for over speeding u pay penalty unlike here in India u start bargaining with police man and he allows since he is interested!!! Same thing happens when u r caught by I T men, u get out by bargaing with them!!!. So America attaracts all people from all over globe as it is right place to make money as long as u pay respect to taxes and law of the land.

They are two important things which make all the difference (at least, that\'s what I think)
1. Population - there is absolutely no comparison here! Area wise USA is huge when compared to India but population wise, it is approximately 1/5th.
2. Every (well almost) dollar earned or spent is accounted for. IT is very difficult to evade taxes. And that\'s what contributes to the development. There are people here also who try ways to evade taxes, but relatively very low.

So, we should never compare India and USA. Instead take our neighbour, China (whatever its inherent flaws are) - that\'s whom we should attempt to emulate - a very stringent family planning and every home literally is a cottage industry!

It is not of size or any other attribute. Every country has to learn good governance from any country if that is good. Take for ex. Singapore or other Asian tigers. Can India match them? It is good to follow good examples from anywhere.

Hi, good questions!! We are not doing bad! Since I lived there for quite some time, I can say a few things.

a) America is a much older free nation.
b) Early inventions such as planes, cars, electric, telephones.
c) Freedom and free enterprise.
d) Optimum use of taxes, people\'s involvement by way of referendums, social security to common man and so on!!

By the way, we used to go there basically for higher education, but now trend has changed. We don\'t need to feel inferior or anything. Spiritually and culturally we are much stronger.

US is good in lots of places. So is India. The diff. are there. though.
- There is immense awareness among the general public.
- Due to the law that states that schooling is compuslory, there is more of minimum educated youth.
- Most of the Americans believe that they truly deserve the best and they see to it that they have it and also maintain it, for ex. good roads, landscape, community services, utility services, military services, political services, banking systems, well, wow!
- They do not think that if something wrong is happening to a next door neighbor, it is not their business. They make it their business and also see the end of that wrong, yet, they give lot of personal space to each other.

Essentially they respect and love themselves and respect the next person for his right to do the same. In smaller cities and towns there is similar closeness in the communtiy that we find in our towns and villages. The americans believe that they are great and make it happen. oh, yeah, there is immense passion for their country\'s greatness and they have tremendous amts. of patriotism. They are good people, like us, most of them (I feel so, and i do get to meet a lot of them but obviously not all of them!!) the corruption is a lot less, it is there, but not in to day to day living, the ways we have. Lots more later.

A news item in Indian media:
A US scientist has described India\'s technology policies as \'\'stupid\'\', which have \'\'crippled and hurt\'\' Indian developmental process.

Jack Dangermond, founder-President of the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), a world leader in GIS technology, said on Wednesday that India is confusing politics on one hand with security restrictions on the other.

Elaborating, he said the geographic data freely available on the internet, could not be published in India but is freely available outside.

\'\'Indian agencies are hurt and crippled, unable to use the GIS data which could otherwise be helpful in developmental plans. People elsewhere can actually but that data...This is India\'s Spatial Data Irony that you get it backwards while the entire world gets it forwards. It is stupid,\'\' he told UNI.

Dangermond was talking to UNI after signing two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between the ESRI and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for providing GIS software by the ESRI to DST for their National Spatial Data infrastructure division and the ambitious programme \'Mapping of the Neighbourhood\' launched by DST under the \'Great Arc.\'

Earlier, Dangermond while addressing a press conference, said he was not satisfied with the kind of technology policies that India had.

\'\'You are not taking advantage of technology because you keep maintaining laws on security of general data. That is wrong.\'\'

\'\'Do you think that 9/11 happened because terrorists got the data from the internet. No. There is enough information available elsewhere,\'\' he added.

by KK » Thu Apr 24, 2003 3:35 am

Cliff...it took over 3 centuries for USA to become like this. In any case...India needs a better infrastructure... to do that we need better governance and optimal usage of tax money. And when it comes to tax money what percentage of India population pays taxes.. so it is a basic problem of each individual. If the govt. could collect taxes of all shapes and forms on time from even 70% of the eligible citizens.. then we will have Hoover Dam like projects in India that serve water, electricity and agri needs. That is the key.

hey nice try pal.!!!!!! just by being upset you will not acieve anything, as KK has pointed out it took america 300 years to become a superpower, we are only 50 years old now. by the way, i guarantee that Times poll is wrong, so relax and cool.!!! I feel sorry for your extreme feelings, but you will only win by concentrating on your goals and by keeping your cool mind. so pleazze coool it. ok.!!!! oh.! by the way our country is already spiritual before you even thought about it so just love it the way it is. ok.!!! looks like you want to become just like america.. is that what you want. tell me.???

America has Capitalism. We just awoke from the slumber of socialism. Americans are traders - children from birth are given the mindset of \'No free lunches\'. We were not. Lastly Americans follow \'WIFM\' (What\'s in for me). We are told by parents, society, religion to think otherwise.
We are inching closer. At the same time in America its cutting edge qualities are getting diluted.

America(USA) IS TRYING TO fight racism I beleive. But in India still after 54 years filthy racism still not going sofar. I was feeling to get converted to Buddhism. But unfortunately official reasons dont permit that.Beleive me I was born to Brahmin parents. But By the way I hate the Racism followed in India still in this digital era.Long line Ravan.

Hi Jatinder.! yeah you are right. infact there are several inherent questions configured in Cliff\'s board that need a detail answering.!! my only concern is that we can become like america in terms of money and power, but we don\'t have to copy them in every step of life. you know what I mean.!!?

Our people thought about culture, Americans thought about money. They wanted to improve their country and wanted to emerge as a super power in the world, and so in the 1880s itself they planned about their country and its future. But our people are still indulging in illiteracy, casteism, religions. So, it\'s better to be a spectator of our country since we cannot change the fate of our country, our elders and our people.
