Reservation policy in education and employment

by Kulcha Hyderabadi » Sat Jun 29, 2002 12:30 am

How long should we continue with the reservation policy in Education and Employment? – Fifty plus years on after independence, we still have a large number of seats and positions reserved for various backward and deprived classes. In my opinion, mind you, this is a personal opinion; the Government should stop this now. Uplifting the backward and deprived classes should be done through financial aid. Government provides these deprived classes with free education and other benefits. To reserve seats in professional courses, and to lower the admission criteria is like depriving meritorious students of their right. Likewise, reserving a certain quota of jobs is also depriving qualified candidates of employment opportunities. Justice is not that you take something away from someone to give it to others. The Government should continue to provide financial assistance to all the deprived classes but must stop the reservation policy in Education and Employment. Certainly, what these people lack is finance, we should not compromise on the quality of Education and Employment, should we? If people from these classes are good enough, they will get into Education and Employment as others do. What do you think guyz/galz?

Reservation policy in education and employment

dear kulcha hyderabadi,
actually i was trying to draft the same points but i\'m very glad to see that you\'ve created a board on this burning scenerio.why are reservations entertained or practised?its just because to save their vote bank.every politician want to be in good books of everyone in the country.they just want to pretend to be good to everyone inorder to gain political milage.even man who have common sense knows that alloting reservation quota does not help for the prosperity of the nation.is only restricts the efficient people.i want to ask few question which i would think that everyone can answer.when we are secular and democrtic......why some places are reserved for contesting elections?how far it justifies democracy?if they feel that it justifies than why is the prime minister post or the chief ministers post not reserved?its nothing but to terminate the political career of the budding leaders.if the government really want to fight against the poverty or for minority classes they can just provide financial aid.in what way they can justify the policy of reservation by putting the calibre candidates at stake?we must help the poor but not at the cost of others.this reservation policy does not help for the development but it will always be an obstacle for the prosperity.

Correctly said by venkat, mostly it is used for political purposes. I think it has become an indivisable part of our society. No wonder KR Narayan supporting reservations in the appointment of judges. I think as a first step towords this process we shoud eliminate reservations in the critical services like Doctors, Lawyers, Judges, police. Then expand the same to politics, education. Am I dreaming too much here? I think so. :)

kulchaa bhai- what is the reservation , why so, i hope there should be equality, among the people, i mean the difference btwn a blue collar and a white collar should be almost insignificant, then the person will make a rt choice about his career, the problem in India is that some ppl like Dr\'s , engineers are paid so much and the clerks etc.....are paid 1/10 of these ppl, if every one had equality, proper salaries which are based atleast on experience, then no need for all this reservations, becoz then the education will become some thing which is a result of our passion towards it and not jsut to earn the bread......to do all this lets just wait for another 50 years, after all even england took 75 years to achieve that position after the industrial revolution occured, India is a just new born baby, 50 years is nothing when compared to the life of a nation.....

Mr Kulch, reservations will continue as long as the backward castes are tortured in the rural areas. even today we can find in newspapers that a dalit women being molested by the upper caste guys and the police or the govt maitains silence. They need encouragement to come forward and have a better life.

In this Brave New World societies of homosapiens should not be much different from the one that existed since time immemorial. Different classes like alpha, beta, gamma etc will continue to exist, with or without Reservations. Planet earth will always have exploiters, the exploited and mere spectators. Man made laws will never be able to remedy this situation. Implementation of Devine laws by a deputy of Almighty is the answer.

hi,
it is good to note that the inefficient reservation system is being questioned. why not have a national debate about it and how to remove it it or regularise its gradual demise?
