by HH » Sat Oct 01, 2005 9:47 pm

It was clear the survey had touched a chord somewhere. That's when the idea of creating a learning event began to take shape. Last week nearly 500 delegates took part in the first Great Place to Work Seminar Series held across Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. Robert Levering, the co-founder of the Great Place to Work Institute, Inc., and Anil Sachdev, the founder of Grow Talent, the Indian partner of the Great Place to Work Institute, led the Seminar. The CEOs and HR heads of the Top 25 companies in the survey shared their experiences on how to make workplaces sizzle. Some of the learnings from the Series, plus glimpses. ...

India Accelerating!
This is the name of the study undertaken by The New York Times on India's highway modernization program better known as The Golden Quadrilateral Project; quite amazing as well as thought provoking!

I read about it in yesterday's The Hindu...Check it out @

India Races! - Indians ready for a spending spree

Indians ready for a spending spree as consumers globally pull back in view of uncertain economic conditions

* India races ahead of China in terms of a positive outlook for the year ahead
* Equities, Out-of-home consumption, Apparel and Tourism to benefit the most in India
* Indians the world’s most optimistic consumers about employment opportunities

Indian consumers, in tandem with their Asian counterparts are clearly the world’s most optimistic while the vast majority of Europeans and Americans maintain a firmly dismal economic outlook, according to the latest global online consumer confidence survey from ACNielsen.

The ACNielsen Online Consumer Confidence Survey, the largest twice-yearly global survey of its kind, is aimed to gauge consumers’ current confidence levels, spending habits/intentions and current major concerns. The survey, polled over 21,100 respondents in 38 markets from Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, Latin America and Emerging Markets. ...

India KITES!

Like many Asian and Middle Eastern countries, India has an ancient kite fighting tradition: its signature kite is a fighter made of colorful tissue paper and bamboo, carefully crafted for maneuverability and responsiveness. Its flying line includes a section of manjha, coated with crushed glass to cut the flying line of other combatants. Kites fill the skies on many occasions (for example, in Delhi on January 26th, Republic Day, and August 15th, Independence Day) but especially on January 14th, Makar Sankranti, the great kite festival that marks the passage of the sun into the northern hemisphere.

Outsourcing Capital of The World - INDIA ... 2006!

# Why Software Outsourcing to India?

India has emerged as one of the most favoured Software outsourcing destinations for all the leading IT global players. Anywhere from one-half to two-thirds of all Fortune 500 companies are already outsourcing to India.

Let's see what the consultancy firms say on outsourcing to India:

Giga predicts: "Compared to other competing countries such as China, Ireland, Israel, and the Philippines, India will continue to dominate as the preferred offshore country."

Forrester Research indicates: "By 2003, a large number of companies will engage offshore providers and their budgets too will grow rapidly. According to a study conducted by Forrester, India's edge over other competing nations in the IT outsourcing business is based on the country's decade old experience in this area, fluency in the English language, supportive Government policy infrastructure, and high quality offerings."

# How Software Outsourcing to India Helps MNCs:

Outsourcing as a percentage of global companies' budgets is expected to increase from 30% in '02 to 40% in '04 in general and to 50% particularly in the case of software companies. The worldwide expenditure on outsourcing services is expected to reach $151 billions by 2003. Corporate giants in the United States, Europe, and Japan prefer India for cost-effective and high-quality software solutions. According to National Association for Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), outsourcing industry is heading to $1.2 trillion by 2006. And India, as one of the biggest outsourcers, is likely to gain the most out of it.

Outsourcing in India is providing effective business solution to the MNC. Software Outsourcing helps MNCs to:

* Cut application development and maintenance costs
* Deal effectively with the peaks and valleys of software demands, and
* Focus on more strategic work

"Amazing Construction Project" - INDIA !

This is the most amazing construction project either of us had ever seen.
They are building a new concrete sidewalk without any machinery. 30 people doing laps to the stone or sand piles and bringing back what they could carry in baskets on their heads and then mixing it by hand and repeating the laps to carry the mixed concrete to the walkway.... very industrious and remarkably fast.
