If we take the comments, criticisims and statements in a positive way and look in a perspective to develop ourselves we can make a whole lot different India with a positive outlook in no time.
I would rather disagree with a generalisation on this scale. I've seen Indians to be much more open to constructive criticism instead. And we're all aware of the drawbacks in our society and way of life. The crux of the matter here is that we're not as bad as is often portrayed in societies not in sync with our current stage of development.
I've come across a lot of foreigners, especially americans who are taught in their schools that India is a land rife with poverty, illiteracy, epidemics and communal strife. When told that India is the eleventh biggest economy in the world, they either laugh it off as a poor joke or simply stare in disbelief.
Its natural that when we come across such blatant misconceptions, we deny it and try to present the correct picture. Also, this being a very emotional issue, tempers fly high at times. This reaction is generally viewed as a kind of a closed approach to criticism.
