Check out Seymour Hersh's expose of the torture of Iraqis (
http://www.newyorker.com) at the Abu Graib prison, which at the peak of Sadaam's brutal rule, apparently held 58000 prisoners. It was Hersh who revealed the report of the Pentagon that put the newscycles in an overdrive. The investigation of torture was on since last October, but only now has the American public come to know of it.
We can safely predict that the images of Iraqis being tortured and humiliated will be a defining moment in the larger context of the occupation of Iraq. If the Americans are pervaded by the feeling of guilt, then the Arabs put shame right up there and you can well imagine the reactions that were produced in the Arab world.
By way of damage control, Bush is appearing on two Arab channels - one whose name escapes me, which operates out of Virginia and the other is Al Arabiya which is based in Dubai.
