Yes Morphie i did, because they are some pros and cons about this country. However There is alot to say about this country which puts me in a shame, like invading iraq for no reason, killing innocent people.

The point here is not what you feel about America but the sorry picture you have of India. Let's see the things you've accused India of, one by one.

1. We don't have a voice : We do have a strong voice. India is one of the most mature democracies in the world. It also has a strong judiciary and an earnest constitution. Yes, illiteracy goes a long way in preventing people from making their voice heard....but the picture is changing now. Even people from the remotest of villages have started to recognise their rights and duties and the day is not far when we'll have a much more robust social support system.

2. Child exploitation : I won't deny the fact that child exploitation happens here. But, here too, people are recognising the truth. Law enforcement officials are tough on child exploiters. Finally, the most important part. You don't have a rampant child pornography culture in India. People here are much more sensitive to such isues.

3. Prostitution : The oldest profession in the world is also the most spread out probably. There is prostitution in every country. And as long as its not forced, I don't see anything wrong with prostitution. Further, social organisations and NGO's are doing their bit in the field of empowerment of prostitutes. Today, a prostitute's child can go to school without having to worry about barbs being pointed at him/her.

4. Pollution : Delhi has fast changed from being one of the world's most polluted cities to a clean and green zone everyone feels like being in. A model example that would surely be followed by other places.

5. People peeing & crapping on the road : Yes...we have that too...but that's again a fallout of illiteracy and poverty. Things are changing in this field too. Sulabh Shauchalays have showed the way and local governments are taking a lot of initiative on the sanitation front.

6. Racial discrimination : India has been one of the most racially tolerant countries in the world. There are abberations like Gujarat though, but they are the exception rather than the rule. This board itself is a vibrant example of India's Unity in Diversity.

More on this later. Ignorant Americans.

Thanks everyone! but come one somethings i said are true huh? i am not trying to say that i hate india, i love it i am proud to be an indian but, india is too sexist as in being too Male dominanted. Like for instance a Women was running the prime ministers chair do you think she would get support as much as a male would?

And india needs the younger generation standing up for things they believe in.

I didnt read the whole transcript....I skimmed thru it a bit, however.

Im a democrat. But really, sometimes I feel bipartisan. But I know thats not the issue here. Bush and Kerry both are pitiful candidates. But since we saw what kind of job Bush did the past 4 years, giving someone else a chance seems like an intelligent choice.

Personally, after watching all 3 of the 90 minute presidential debates---I think Kerry is ready and serious enough to really make some good changes.

Now, sure the popular vote doesnt really count. The Electoral College will choose who they will. But I could hope.

Whoever said that child prostitution does not exist in India? And about child exploitation, whenever I go to samachar.com, I get to see news like father rapes his daughter or some old geezer rapes a single digit kid. There is so much going on in India, most of which is probably under the wraps because of "family prestige" going down or whatever. New brides are still being burnt and tortured today.. I have seen that most Indians still have the "frog-in-the-well" and "feel good" attitudes about India while conveniently ignoring the more serious issues which are rarely brought to stage.

I am not saying that the US is a land where everybody lives happily ever after, but if anyone tries to do something stupid, he pays for it. In India, many people just get away after horrible crimes because of various obligations to society or pressure from various sources.

thats what i was trying to make my point, that there are some wackos in india who like little children. I see that young kids from ages 12 are kidnapped and forced to be street walkers (prostitutes).

SS....India did have a female prime minister who was in power for 3 terms and a bit.

Lonewolf.....I never said that sickos don't exist here. Sickos as in child rapists et al exist everywhere irrespective of the country, religion, race, creed and what not. What I said was that there isn't a rampant child pornography culture here. You won't see Indian websites showing nudes of minors etc. Child prostitution is not as big as many other countries in the Americas, Europe and S.E.Asia. Plus, the authorities are much more sensitive to these issues here.

Have you never heard of children being forced or lured into prostitution in Bombay and Goa? And have you already forgotten about Lakhireddy Balireddy (http://www.programmersguild.org/archives/lib/Reddy/ixp20000203reddy.htm) who "imported" Telugu child prostitutes into the US. Child prostitution is illegal in both countries, but in India it goes on and on under the tables. In the US, people get caught. Earlier this week, an Indian guy living here in Chicago (W Devon St) was arrested by the cops for downloading and watching child pornography on his personal computer at home. The US is not sitting quiet regarding child pornography. There are sickos in every country as you said. What counts is what the government is doing about it.

Its a joke if you say that the Indian government is more sensitive to issues like this. If any brothel in India is raided, all that the brothel owner has to do is shell out a few bucks to the cops, and the case is flushed down the toilet.

Shows where its more rampant. As for the bombay and Goa thing, as I said...it happens everywhere. its only that its still not all that rampant in India as it is in the places I mentioned earlier.

If it was an under the table thing in India...how would so many ppl know about it? Are they all regular visitors to these places? or do these places advertise heavily?

Regular prostitution? maybe...yes. But child prostitution...try it man and you'll see what happens when you get caught.
