Karate Festival 2003 Pics Part 1

by Sharjeel » Sat Sep 18, 2004 2:32 pm

Here we go Dudes and Dudettes!

These pics are from last years Karate Festival. Since there has been a bit of a lull in the postings, I thought meanwhile you peeps may enjoy these pics. These are unedited screen captures, so are not good quality. I uploaded them last year and Gramps is too lazy to edit and reload them.

This year we are planning a bigger Fest which will have no tickets, because last year we had a lot of trouble selling the tickets. Because of a tourney this years Karate Fest may get postponed. I will go to nagpur in October for about 3 months. Hope that I can participate in this year's Fest too.

Image

Here's the crowd. Composed mostly of family and friends, but even then they were well over 400 peeps!

Image

Hemanth sir breaking the customary Burning tiles. (I had poured too much petrol on the tiles and he was angry at me!)

Damn dude..you got kicked in the NUTS by a girl. Ouch.. that must hurt! Didnt I tell you to wear protection all the time. If you keep getting your NUTS beaten up like that I am not sure if you will ever have little sherry's runing around the house.

BTW; What were you doing attacking a girl with a GUN that has no bullets in it. Come to my school of Badmashi and I shall teach you how to be a BADMASH!

Heh heh...

I would like to point out that Martial Arts is a contact sport and there is bound to be touching and stuff. But all is done in good spirits.

So what belt are you? I assume that, since you're involved with this and keep calling people in the pics ma'am and sir, you're studying under them. What belt, what style, what dojo etc etc?

Naah, I am not a black belt. Belts are only an indication of the amount of dedication and time spent by a person practicing MA, so they are not so absolutely significant.

I used to practice in Nagpur's Hombu-dojo (Head Dojo) at Yeshwant Stadium of the Itosu-ryu style (the FATHER style of Shito-ryu) Karate. I am currently a Green Belt.

We will all be going to Mumbai in December, and that is where Sempai (chief Instructor) Emmanuel Phillip has told me that we will be giving our Brown Belt exams. There is an exam before that in Nagpur only, but it will be during Ramzan (giving a brown belt exam during Ramzan=suicide) and anyway Rohini will be giving her exam in Mumbai and I dont want to hear her brag about her tough exam for the rest of my life   :

Abe tune kya exam diya re saale!?! Bas thoda idhar udhar bhhaagne ko exam bolte hain? Exam to maine diya tha Mumbai main. Udhar hoti hai technique ki exam. Saale 2 saal mein hi brown belt mil gaya. Hum logon ko dekho 3 saal tak mehnat karne ke bad brown belt mila, wo bhi kya hard exam tha! Pehe sprinting hui, phir poori exercises, phir akele fight karvae saare examinees ke saath, phir kata, blah blah blah....

I should not be giving a brown belt so quickly, but this is the prize I get for having always been among Sempais most hard-working and sincere students, alongwith my best pally Rohini. So I get a special 'quick-test' bcoz I will be in nagpur for my BE Final yr exams around that time, and me n her and one or two others get a special treat and get to go to Mumbai, where the belt exams are toughest (we karatekas are masochists).

I miss my teacher and friends . Especially the fun I had horsing around and cracking jokes with Emmanuel sir and Vinod and Lata and Rohini and the others.

He once jokingly nicknamed me No. 2 because i am second in line (after him), should that idiot (Rohini) deide to marry. Now I always sign my SMSes as No. 2, and he gets absolutely nutted and tells me all his students are No. 1. Can swear they're both romantically involved tho they deny it, and they seldom lie to me; but if they are it is very good news bcuz they're MFEO. They're always joking about marrying each other and giving birth to a super Martial Artist. *Really fond memories... *

Btw, dunt mind the long post; Grampa is really happy about getting to post again, and may have typed too much in the excitement.
