Need some suggestions, moving to your town soon

by New to HYD » Fri Jan 09, 2004 5:38 pm

Hi,

I would be moving to Hyderabad this month. I would be comming for a short visit to take a place to stay, and then would finaly move with in a week.

I would like to know about the places where I should look out for a 2BHK house for rent, the selection criteria is Broadband or Cable Internet connection with 128kbps, it should also be near to market and on 1st or 2nd floor (I hope I am not asking for too much). Maximum budget for such a place is arround Rs 3500. It would be also great if anyone could even mention any specific property dealers which they feel are good.

I am comming for the first time to HYD, if I could get some tips on do's and don'ts then it would be helpful.

Best Wishes,

Rahul

Welcome!

Hi Rahul. Welcome to our wonderful city!

Like so many others, I am sure you too would hate to leave here once u settle in!

About places to stay, its better at least in the initail stages, if you stay near where you would work/study/whatever (ideally maximum of abt 8 Kms apart). This is coz daily commuting wont be a problem for a new-comer. Please give us the location of your office/college/whatever, so that we may help you in finding a house within your budget.

Cable internet is available in many places, tho I dont know abt the speed.

About DOs and DONTs, one thing that comes up first in my mind is that DONT attempt to drive any vehicle till you experience the mad-house that passes for traffic and get used to it. 2 wheelers are more manageable for new-comers than cars. Otherwise, you can travel by city bus (a good service, tho can get very crowded in peak hours) or on one of the numerous share-auto rickshaws that operate on specific routes.

Once you find a house, buy a city map and orient yourself with your surroundings, nearest places of interest etc. Dont trust house/door numbers. They are some municipal officer's idea of a joke. Rely more on directions and landmarks (once you get here, u'll realise what i mean!).

The people are very friendly, but sometimes they can be real nosy, though no harm is meant. Just smile a lot, talk sweetly and that can open a lot of doors.

Try to pick up hyderabadi lingo and dont laff if someone speaks to you in it.

I invite others to give other suggestions.

Thanks a lot, I think I have started to know your (soon our) city more.

As for my place of office, there is none right now. I am working as a Freelancer (Web developer) and for better options and a future office to be setup, I am moving to Hyderabad, so any place which can offer good net speed and has a good environment, is what I am looking out for.

Every bit counts ;o). Thanks for your suggestions.

Best wishes,

Rahul

Hi Ctrl-bhai, long time? HNY etc etc :) Since your advice to Rahul is quite comprehensive, I'm not sure if i've got anything more to add.

Frankly, does anyone know the story behind this 'date of birth' format that is used here for door numbers? :)

yes JLU-bhai, long time sice i posted. after the site revamp, the new look has left me disoriented. I love this new format but spent some time reading posts, just to get feel of it. maybe this also explains the sudden silence of M.Morpheus, Hab' Perfectionist and others.

maybe now I have to resume my posts!

btw, what is the story behind the house number format...???

lol @ "the new look has left me disoriented" :) Maybe the glasses in your avtar needs an upgrade ;) Yeah, i'm missing the oldies too like MM, HP, ABCD, neeraja, Jekyll, ZC, Anil etc. Even archana has gone silent after posting a nerdy question and its answer :)

I'm not aware of the story of the 'house number format' - if there is one, that is. I was asking if anyone knows. Maybe we should write our own story, like is happening in the 'creativity' section. Btw, that story is lacking the erotic content which you promised you'll provide ;)
