Why take MPs take holiday in the name of demised member?

by Ravi » Wed Dec 03, 2003 3:26 pm

When a MP or MLA passes away, in the next session of the Parliament/Assembly they declare a morning statement and cancel all that days proceedings and meet next day. I think this practice is inherited from the British rule. Instead of taking a holiday, why can\'t the Parliament/Assembly work extra on that day as a token of respect to the member passed away?
<br>The Parliament/Assembly should set an working example in this way.

I think its a good thing for them to take a day off. That way they save lakhs of ruppes for the exchequer (Average money spent on \'a working parliament day\' is about 20 Lakh rupees) . The MP\'s wont do any usefull work anyway, except fighting.
May the Fries be with you!
