It means they are authorized to enter any part of Indian union with out any permit (in any form). In lay men\'s terms, CAN GO WITHOUT STOP UP ALWAYS. Even in high security areas they are authorized to enter.

Hi, I guess your query was not properly answered by the board people. This mark is referred to as the BROAD ARROW referred to normally as the BA number, and forms part of the registration number of the vehicle. After the BA mark the next two digits indicate the year of registration. Have you noticed this? This is the meaning for the arrow for all defence vehicles...

hai neeraja,
thank you for through some light on the above mentioned topic. may i know how you come to know about the informatiom that you have provided. i have a doubt about the broad arrow or the BA as you may call it. we see a number of lorries and other transport vehicles that have all india permit, with just an \"ALL INDIA PERMIT\" written on that. why do the military vehicles also do follow the same way instead of the BA. is the purpose of the BA limited to mentioning that the vehicle sporting it has an all india permit or does that carry any other useful information.

Hi, my relative is a Rtd. Major from the Army... I understand all the defence vehicles have this type of BA mark... The history of this is not known, but this is authentic information. You can also check it out from your defence circle friends.

ok! this is what i know... its something we inherited from the british raj. the arrow indicates (i think) that its a defense vehicle.. not bound by civilian jurisdiction. and as someone pointed out.. entry everywhere.. anywhere.. any corrections??
