Victims Of Racism

by Shahed » Tue Feb 25, 2003 12:44 pm

Most of the ambitious and needy guys/gals after finishing their professional courses in India start dreaming of going abroad like US, CANADA, GULF, ENGLAND and other countries to fulfill their dreams. Once they reach there and after acquiring a good position, getting financially sound and gaining good experience in their respective fields, what is the feedback of those NRIs about that country and the people of that country when they come back to India after achieving their targets? That country(foreign) gave you a job, food, shelter, status, good career and experience and avcourse the people of that country accepted and allowed you to stay and live with them. Most common feedback goes like this: We are the victims of racism, they are very partial in every aspect like salaries, benefits etc etc. and not justifying with us. Their government policies are not satisfactory and are more favourable to their countrymen. They humiliate us and they don\'t like to see others on higher posts, our facilities are limited... etc etc etc. So guys/gals what do you think about such feedback from NRIs? Are they justified? Are all these complaints fair? Where does the actual problem lie?

Well, shahed different people have different thoughts about the country’s people where they are working, the country’s law & order. As far as my opinion, I work in Saudi, and I hope you too are in Saudi, well as you know if you are working very hard with all your damm interest in work and you are not been appreciated and a third person gets whole credit then it feels immense painful & disgusting, its sick. So, if you are been liked and appreciated by your work then definitely you too will love that country & their countrymen where you are working. Though we are staying abroad leaving our loved ones, for me still don’t have any complaints about this country because you come here when you are nothing with no experience, no money. I think everybody in the world who is a NRI doesn’t like the government policies where they are working. But one should think its their country, and you are there because of them.

If an India can compete at a student level, then become a professional and more, why can\'t he/she rise to higher ranks? And then why complain about racism? I do not subscribe to this complaint-mongering phenomenon which is only increasing these days. The actual turn of events go like this: you work hard as a student, compete hard, get a good job, work even harder, get a couple of promotions, get married, have kids, see your friends migrate to computers, and want to make the same pay but with less risk and that too in your current profession/current job. But then you DO NOT REALOZE that you DO NOT HAVE THE SMARTS AND DIPLOMACY to become a manager. That is when the complaints begin. The bottom line is that desis lack diplomacy and the skill to manage. It is not racism, it is simply pessimism.

Its true that racism exists in many countries, to which extent depends on your post, would you accept a white skin in India to be your boss today ??, the same rules apply elsewhere too --competent or incompetent, with the only difference that humans are a bunch of hypocrites, they get their work done by others and take the benefits MOST of the time

According to my experience racism is everywhere in the world. Even in India there is a lot of racism. Andhraiites are against Telangan people. North is racist towards south etc etc., So, we should not complain about racism in other countries unless it is too bad. Foreign countries do not hold us there against our will. We live there because we want to live there as we make more money there. We should be able to weigh the good points and the bad points and act accordingly. If a person wants to come back to India who is going to stop him/her from coming back?

well, first of all, do we really need to leave India to settle down well in life??? I think NO!!! whatever u can do outside the country, we can always do it here...

coming to the point, if someone feels that he is a victim of racism, why can\'t he come back and settle in his village after he earns enough money? they won\'t do it...\'cos they think it is a matter of honour to call themselves NRI\'s. the moment we prefer being NRI to being Indian, we lose the right to complain \'bout racism.
If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is - infinite.

Racism is part and parcel of our very civilised society. Just have to learn to deal with it as with any other issue. In the West, one can sue anyone for any kind of humiliation, distress or injustice and that includes Racism. The important point to remember is not to lose your cool at that instant or feel degraded but to remain calm and give it back within the framework of the law. It\'s only when you lie down that people walk all over you. The rule in life is to stand up for yourself \'coz no one else will!!!

RACISM! lets cut that definition down to \"discrimination by prejudice\". The world looks a whole lot different now doesnt it? There is this kinda racism in india it has different names ..south/north castism ..etc etc and what more the government is inherently racist when it \"reserves\" 33% seats to the women. I dont want to sound like an MCP ..but what I\'m saying reserving seats is like accepting that women are weak and therefore need \"reservation\" in a man\'s world. Thats\' a bunch of bull. We should strive to discriminate less on the basis of sex in everyday life and encourage women to participate equally rather than have reservation. I think reservation is the biggest form of racism in government institutions in india apart from ..ofcourse castism. As for the people who are Anti NRI..its a shame you\'re not open minded enough to explore the reality of it all. Racism sucks and we should oppose it. If racism happens in india ..there\'s nothing much you can do about it COZ ITS LEGAL! ..abroad ..you can sue the crap outa people who discriminate you !
