Road accidents

Why is it that in India people just watch the accident and no one goes near the victim? He is left on the road at the accident spot without even first aid, and the poor guy dies on the spot without getting any help. Timely help would certainly save a majority of the accident victims.

Who is accountable? The police or the laws that have been framed? In Saudi Arabia which is very strict not only in road discipline, in the event of any accident, the police, the fire service and an ambulance come within few minutes to the accident spot and the victims are first admitted to a hospital. The fire services clear the wreck so well, it\'s as though nothing\'s happened. And later as the last stage comes the investigation for the case.

The govt talks a lot about Hitech etc. and recently our MLAs went for a familiarization trip to different overseas countries, so why can\'t the valuable human life be saved by proper attention and timely act by the police department, supported by the public and by implementing a new law?

Neeraj, people don\'t help accident victims because they don\'t want to get involved with the police dept of GREATER INDIA. We Indians are very caring and warm-hearted people but the minute you get involve in helping an accident victim, the Indian police sits on your head and makes your life miserable like hell. I myself have seen victims lying on the road and hundreds of people standing around him just to see the tamasha. Sorry to say that almost all the departments run by our Govt depend on bribe money. And they don\'t leave any stone unturned to get that money. The whole country needs overhauling, otherwise this and all the coming generations will suffer.

Yes, I completely agree with Saira. We are not indifferent to the victims in such road accidents. It\'s just because of the bloody police that we avoid going there and doing somthing about it. Who knows, the police may put us behind the bars for having even touched him before they arrived at the spot. U know, they dont need a reason to put people behind bars. Any police in need of money, the first thing in the morning he wud do is to catch some bakra, threaten to put him behind bars for some senseless reason and ask for a bribe. Tell me, what wud u do when we have such corrupt police here?

Saira, Anitha, thank you, but the solution has not been given. Are we just going to be passive onlookers seeing the victims just die before our eyes? How cruel our laws are - we have to be hi-tech in all aspects, not just in having computers in offices.
