Celeberation/observation of various days

by Saira » Wed Jul 03, 2002 8:55 pm

Salam, First of all I would like to say that I am a proud Hyderabadi, proud of many good things of our culture. Our religion is embeded in our life styles. But, I get scared when I see the Western influence taking grip on our youth. There is nothing wrong with celebrating Mothers day or father day but what do u say about Valentine day? In India do we need to add more celebrations?????? No other nation in the world has as many holidays as we have. Though we celebrate our own religious holidays but we do enjoy other celebrations too. I mean living all our lives in India we never started celebrating Diwali, Holi or Rakhu Punnam then why do we need to celebrate Western holidays. Tell me please is there anything wrong in celebrating Rakhi Punnam?????? To me there is nothing wrong in celebrating it BUT we follow religious guidelines and don\'t participate in other religion\'s festivities. I agree with Hina 100%. This Western influence has started to mix our Eastern culture, and I am afraid one day we all are going to regret it very badly. Especially this VALENTINE DAY, is not a very good idea for our country\'s youth. Whome do u give valentine card?? not to your brother or sister but to a boyfriend or girlfrined. And u don\'t find an instant BF/GF just to give the card, you make one and then keep it. Indirectly it is a way of intoducing western culture to our young generation. I have read those cards they r very romantic and sometimes full of lust.
Kucha hydi: Ofcourse culture and religion are two different things BUT they r not completely isolated. We have to keep in mind our religious and moral values to shape up your culture.

hi saira....i donno what u wanted to express thru ur msg ....assuming that i understood what u wanted to get thru our heads....here`s my opinion..... u said india has too many holidays ...and its not good to include the other fest like mothers day, FD,VD etc....don worry as of now no such day has been declared a public holiday...and also i don see any signs of such a thing happening....those who feel that its a special for them...they`ll enjoy....and other just ignore....why bang ur head.......u also were in 100% aggrement with hina...which i felt that was the most illogical message posted here....and the example she gave abt mothers day and fathers day was just wierd....i would sound something like this....\"don celebrate rakhi punnam on one day bcuz u luv ur brother every day and celebrating rakhi punnam will prove that u luv ur brother on single day...rather than the whole year....i guess this was the analogy the example that hina gave....\"...such a thing is not expected from u educated mortals....
Another point i want to rise here.....
\"Whome do u give valentine card?? not to your brother or sister but to a boyfriend or girlfrined.\"....i guess bro and sis are not the only entities in our life.....valentines day is a day when some baffled lover finds an excuse to express his/her liking or love towards some one......its just making his/her life easier....Good for those ppl...so why bother....
