Car for Hyd

by KK » Tue Jun 20, 2006 12:11 am

I've asked this question longtime, which is a simple, economical & most practical mid size car with good safety ratings.

Do you think Hyundai Swift will stand out?

Suggestions please?

Swift is from Maruti Suzuki and Hundai makes Getz.

From what I read, Swift is an excellent car specifically designed for Indian conditions and not some downgraded version of a car sold in the west.

I have seen a Top-Gear (BBC Auto Review) episode in which they play Soccer on Ice with Suzuki Swifts!! Pretty safe car I guess.

Thank Mayavi. I'm also open to small-big cars such as Santro or Innova & mid size cars. If I have to nail down one of them which one will it be? Say 6 lakhs is my budget.

I do not know much about the Indian car market but from what I've read, Swift is the best small car in market now. Consider Ford or Chevy if you can afford them but personally I do not like what Chevy is offering in India.

Hundai Santro is good but its been in the market for like 10 years now so try new releases. How much does a Sonata cost?

Toyota Innova is a not a sedan. Its a family mini-van and costs around 8 - 9 lakhs.

Good luck searching!

Just checked the prices for Hyundai's

Sonata - 14 Lakhs

Accent - 6.5 - 7.5 Lakhs

Getz - 5 - 6 Lakhs

7.5 Lakhs for the piece of crap called accent

For a range of 6 lakhs, I would strongly recommend Maruti Baleno. May be it is not fancy in looks or brand but is supposed to be a very very good car.

If u r looking for performance vis-a-vis power n space, Getz is for you and if u are willing to compromise on power, Swift is a good car.

Go for a Baleno. I am sure u will be a happy owner.

Ford Ikon is being phased oput and replaced by Ford Fiesta. In anyc ase, Ikon has nothing right except for the pricing, it looks old even when it is new, and has a bad engine (which is being repalced in Ford Fiesta , which incidentally, like Ford Fusion has the same Duratec engine which Ford Mondeo has), with a steerign that needs real power to operate.

You might get the basic model of Ford Fiesta around 6 lakhs.

If lookignfor cars in taht segment, you can try Avio from Chevy, but then, it has already lsot out to Ford Fiesta in terms of performance, so maybe you should not venture that way.

Esteem, Baleno....well....somehow they are known cheap cars...and I ahve no diea why theya re not so popular.

MM, though Santro has been around for 10 years, it keeps on improving its engine, and looks...and 10 years is a good time for a car to be reliable. I personally own one, which has the new look, and I would any day recommend a Santro.....for looks, performance, reliability, mileage, comnfort....comes within 4 lakhs including all charges..

Swift is good, and giving all cars in its segment, mostly maruti's own zen and wagonR, a tough competition.

Indica is fine, if you want to drive like the call-centre cabs....else somehow it doesn't spell class...maybe it is my mental block. :)

Well my thoughts were based on my personal experiences. I drive an Ikon and it serves me perfectly. Esteem is still one of the best cars in that segment if not the best.
