Coffee Caution - Coffee Might Spell Heart Trouble For Some
CHICAGO, March 7, 2006 - Here's a real caffeine jolt - heart attacks might be a risk for coffee drinkers with a common genetic trait that makes caffeine linger in their bodies, a study suggests.
Research on more than 4,000 people in Costa Rica found that about half had the trait and were considered "slow caffeine metabolizers." The other half had the opposite trait, which caused their bodies to rapidly break down or metabolize caffeine, and coffee-drinking in this group appeared to reduce heart attack risks.
Among slow-metabolizers, those who drank two or more cups of coffee daily were at least 36 percent more likely to have a nonfatal heart attack than those who drank little or no coffee. Even higher risks were found for younger slow metabolizers - those under 50. They were up to four times more likely to have a heart attack than slow metabolizers in their age group who drank little or no coffee. ...

HOT Coffee!
As any monkey will tell you, here at ThinkGeek we love delicious Hot Coffee. Sometimes we like it standing up, sometimes on our knees, and sometimes we just like to sit back and enjoy someone else serving us Hot Coffee. A lot of people like Hot Coffee, and a lot of people have been talking about it. Too many people have been talking though, and the goverment is taking away our Hot Coffee. They're replacing it with Decaf. Decaf sucks.
Stand up, sit down, or get on your knees with us and morn the demise of Hot Coffee. If you don't get it, you won't get any. But if you do get it, you might still be able to get some. At least with a shirt.
Black t-shirt in heavyweight 100% cotton with "Hot Coffee, gird your loins for love." printed on the front in white ink.

COLD Coffee!
If you want rich, flavorful coffee that's low in acid and caffeine, unplug your coffeemaker. Instead, use cold water to extract the flavor from beans, and create a brew that the National Coffee Association says has two-thirds less acid and a fraction of the caffeine as hot-brewed java.
The technique is simple: Steep coarsely ground beans in cold water for at least 12 hours, then strain the grounds. The resulting concentrate brings out coffee's smooth characteristics and has a sweet, espresso-like taste. Add as much hot or cold water, or milk, as you like.
Commercial cold-brewers, such as one from Toddy (http://www.toddycafe.com), simplify the process. For a sample, try your local coffeehouse, which may already serve drinks made the chilly way.

CATCHING UP ... Over a Cup of Coffee
A New Culture Brews - Chennai Coffee Culture! ...
Walk into a new-age coffee shop and you will almost relive your college days. The roundtable of backslapping college goers has entered its second hour and the voice of the leggy Mariah Carey gets drowned in their cackles and squeals. A forlorn one sneaks out to send up a spiral of smoke and the dating couples inside never seem to tire of holding hands. Meanwhile, a few not so young ones are struggling hard not to see anything they should not be seeing. Amidst all this enters coffee in a fanciful style that would make conventional coffee drinkers cringe.
From the roadside kaapi kadai, of steaming filter coffee and steel tumblers, to the bustle of the coffee houses, chipped porcelain cups and debates on Cuba and Communism, to the surreptitiously lit, synthetic coffee shops, of creamy cappuccino, latte, and kaapi nirvana, coffee and coffee joints are at yet another turning point. ...
