justice:---- a mirage?

by labelle » Wed Feb 22, 2006 7:59 pm

time and again we see the number of high profile people getting out of case on lack of substantial evidence. the latest case would be the jessica lal murder case. just because the accused were either sons or they themselves were high profile. the question can we get justice in India? if this goes on happening a lawabiding citizen would loose faith in the official machinery of the government. is the government really for the people by the people and of the people and is a common man benefitted by it?

I agree, it is just corruption at its worst. Over a 100 witnesses turning hostile and only because police protection wasn't offered. It's almost sickening to see someone get away with something as gruesome as murder, that too at point blank range. Pathetic.

And inspite of the truth being evident to everyone, nothing is being done and those a$$holes are allowed to roam scott free. :x
Things are supposed to happen the way they happen. And the reason they happen the way the happen is because you try to make them happen in a certain way and may or may not be succesful.

well, its indeed sad to see such an incident, that yet again brings to light the gross inadequacies of our system (justice system?)

for one, the case took too long a time.....it was out of the mind of the public and has been rekindled only when the accused were let free.....

and again, the 'lack of evidence' is something very misleading....were the police idiots when they chargesheeted the accused without any evidence? Something or the other must have been shown as 'evidence'..where has it disappeared now?

I presume most of the 'evidence' were witnesses, who were either 'coaxed' out or had turned hostile because of the fear of the consequences. Time, as they say is the best healer...In this case, its played the part of helping the accused go free....

In this events light, comes the news that 9 accused in the best bakery case were sentenced to life imprisonment.....

Is this because we, the society, accept some people to be more than eqaul?

its great that the case has been there for a "relook". it was because of the tremendous pressure from the media that this has happend but imagine the number of cases that go unnoticed in thousands of local courts, district courts and high courts. sometimes people do not even have money to fight the case and the sobs and anguish go unnoticed. i undersatnd that in the democracy like that of ours it is very difficult to get everything set right staright away but cant we expect some transparency in our system since we still have some laws that are 100 years old isnt it time to ammend some laws and improve the whole system. isnt it time for a free and fair trial and making sure that the whole episode doesnt become a agonising wait for the person who seeks justice.
