New Year's Eve / Day -
Out with the Old, In with the NewTime of the year : December 31-January 1
Places to visit : All over India
Duration : Two days
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day celebrations on these dates are relatively new to India. Traditionally the Indian New Year falls on another day and month but as India opened up to the world new ideas and festivities were brought in.CELEBRATIONS
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day celebrations in India are very similar to those shared around the world. Some people celebrate with huge parties that last late into the night, while others prefer to spend a quieter evening at home with friends and family. In many parts of India, fireworks are used to mark the end of the year.
RITUALS
Just like in other countries, it is tradition to make a resolution to improve one's life. Sometimes, a prayer or worship is done to ask for health and wealth throughout the next year. However, it is usually a very private affair and happens within family homes.
