Train to Udhampur & Sri Raghunath Jammu

by Sujatha » Sun May 01, 2005 7:00 pm

This time i had some some work at Delhi.

I stretched my programme little beyond up to Jammu.

All Gentlemen, If you guys Plan to Visit the Vaishnav Devi Temple PLEASE DONT MISS the prestigeous and the fresh Udhampur Train journey.

This time Shalimer express reached Jammu little late at 0730 hrs.

Somebody informed me that a passenger train is available from Jammu to Udhampur.

The slow passenger train reached the 3rd Platform from PathanKot at about 0840 hrs.

It started at 0850 hrs.

The train Passes through around 12 tunnels.

and I think around 12 River Bridges.

The shocking point is at the entry point of each tunnel there are about 10 CRPF and J&K police guys stand with Guns.

But these police guys are extremly elated (happy) , they waved their hand very happily towards us the passengers.

I could see Dogry villagers and children playing inside the moving train.

They have the pride and happiness with this train.

My next point was to The great Jammu Sri Raghunath Temple.

Here is another shock.

On entry to the temple it seems as if you entering inside another country.

One police team with pointed guns received us.

We were thoroughly checked all together.

There was a full company of police guys inside. All were with Carbine Guns.

Just Above the roof top of the temple one police guy was standing with Ready to shoot position.

I got surprised and sad to see these scenes.

But after seeing the Black colored Lord Sri Raghunath with Arrow,

White colored Lakshman with arrow on right side of Raghunath.

White colored Sita on Left side of Raghunath

I gotta peace.

The Raghunath Bazaar is so busy with so many dry fruit shops and so many.

The typical Matador Public transport took me to Railway station.

For Rs 5/-

On the same night I returned to Delhi by Jhelum express.

Then reached Secunderabad By Rajdhani.

Please guys dont miss the Udhampur train journey.

It promises to be a scenic journey, thanks for sharing the info.

The Northern section railway timetable has only the Sampark Kranti going between Jammu & Udhampur, there is also no additional info on the Northern Railways website and the Indian Railway website says that no trains go to Udhampur (I'm sure the websites are still to be updated).

There is a slow passenger train (1PJ) that comes from Pathankot and is due to arrive (& terminate) at Jammu at 08:00, I wonder if this train has now been extended to Udhampur?

The return journey for this passenger train (2PJ) departs Jammu at 17:20 getting to Pathankot at 20:30.

The train you got from Jammu to Udhampur, was it all unreserved 2nd class seats?

Was the train crowded?

Did you get the return train from Udhampur to Jammu?

Hi Rahul,

Infact it was an unexpected pleasent surprise.

When I landed in Jammu Railway Station I enquired about the Udhampur route.

One of the Railway staff told me that there is a passenger train at 0840 hrs. The train came from Pathankot. It was an old passenger train. But the seats were neat and clean. You can not do reservation since it is an passenger train. There were no Air conditioned coaches. Only second Class coaches with seats.

One of the problem I faced was, plenty of dust hitting my face while we were travelling inside the long tunnels. I was travelling on window side. Somebody told me that these dust will disappear later on.

Infact the train started little late at 0900 hrs.

It reached Udhampur at 1015 hrs.

It was full Really wonderful, wonderful scenes.

It was Infact comparatively a quick journey.

But on return, I travelled by bus which took almost two and half hours to reach the Jammu City.

Sounds great, can't wait for the full line to open past Srinagar to Baramula, it should be a very scenic line, though it's not due to open till 2007.

Thanks for the info.
