indian girls

Every time I read abvout Indian girls/women they say they get married very young, in arranged ceremonies, that it's very difficult to know an indian girl in a pub, etc. and -to sum up- that women there are shy and difficult to be approached. Bollywood films tend to show that face of indian girls: All of them like nice saris, dance, are shy, sweet...

How is the reality of indian women nowadays? I guess there must be a huge difference between the North and the South and the city vs. the country.

Do most of them wear saris? do they talk with other foeigners? Are they geting more westernised? Tell me a little more, I guess there's too much mithology about it...isn't there?

Thx.

This is the only part i'm qualified to answer, the answer is, it depends.

I've never been approached by a random stranger, there has to be some sort of background to it (like sitting beside each other on a plane, working in teams based in the same block, etc). Indian men will call you into their shops from the street, and treat you like royalty, make friends with you, give you loads of tea and refuse payment, etc (this happened me today!) however this sort of relationship is never going to spring up between a foreigner and an Indian girl (with the possible exception of Mumbai and Bangalore, but even there...)

However Indian women in the workplace (middle class professionals) are very forthright , comparable to women in the west in attitude and demeanour (this doesn't mean they'll sleep with you though:) )

oh, on the pub thing, it's rare for a girl to be in a pub on their own (actually its rare for anyone to be on their own here), they'll usually be with a flock of other girls or their boyfriend.

Mark has given you all the info you want (and from your POV too).

Sari is popular among more older women. Young ones have always preferred Salwar Kameez/Jeans.

Indian women are more reserved, not shy. They are definitely very sweet and kind and good and friendly :D .

They are getting more westernised, some silly girls taking it a bit too far. I do not think anyone would refuse outright to talk to a foriegner. But they will be very cauious, naturally.

...more open to talk to strangers....depends on situation

...confident n fearless....definitely yes, since last few years at least

...less indian clothes....definitely not...esp during family gatherings and festivals

...pub-goers....yes...their numbers r increasing...

...casual sex....rare,not easy....u need to be with the right woman at the right time and right place for that to happen...

...and just received this in my mailbox:

************The North Indian Girl**********

1. At the time of marriage, a north Indian girl has more boyfriends than her age.

2. Before marriage, she looks almost like a bollywood heroine and after marriage you have to go around her twice to completely hug her.

3. By the time she professes her undevoted love to you, you are bankrupt because of the number of times you had to take her out to movie theatres and restaurants. And you wait longingly for her dowry.

4. The only dishes she can think of to cook is paneer butter masala, aloo sabji, aloo gobi sabji, aloo matar, aloo paneer, that after eating all those paneer and aloos you are either in the bed with chronic cholestrol or chronic gas disorder.

5. The only growth that you see later in your career is the rise in your monthly phone bill.

6. You are blinded by her love that you think that she is a blonde. Only later do you come to know that it is because of the mehandhi that she applies to cover her gray hair.

7. When you come home from office she is very busy watching "Kyonki saas bi kabi bahu thi" that you either end up eating outside or cooking yourself.

8. You are a very "ESpecial" person to her.

9. She always thought that Madras is a state and covers the whole of south india.

10. When she says she is going to "work out" she means she is going to "walk out"

11. She has greater number of relatives than the number of people you have in your home town.

12. The only two sentences in English that she knows are "Thank you" and "How are you"

13. She thinks Govinda dances better than Michael Jackson.

**********The South Indian Girl***********

1. Her parents look down at you because you didn't study in IIT or Madras/Anna University.

2. Her father starts or ends every conversation with " ... I say..."

3. She shudders if you use four letter words.

4. She has long, oily, braided hair

5. She uses the word 'Super' as her only superlative.

6. Her name is another name for a Goddess or a flower.

7. Her first name is longer than your first name, middle name and surname combined (unless you are from Andhra)

8. When she mixes milk and rice you are never sure whether it is for the Dog or for herself.

9. For weddings, she sports a mini jasmine garden on her head and wears silk saris in the heat without looking too uncomfortablewhile you are melting in your singlet.

10. She thinks Rajnikanth is the sexiest man alive.

11. She bores you by telling you which raaga each song you hear is based on.

12. You have to give her jewellery, though she has already got plenty of it ..

13. Her thali (Mangal Sutra) weighs more than the championship belts worn by WWF wrestlers.

14. She is more educated than you.

15. Her father thinks she is much smarter than you...
