my mom used to say that during her college days in early 60s hydbad, the most popular mode of transport was the cycle-rickshaws. the rick wallahs were so known to feel so responsible abt their female passengers that they usually stay on the road even after being paid, till their lady passengers were safely INSIDE their houses. they n other rick wallahs wouldnt let any eve teasers remain on the road...

thats something we wud never find elsewhere!

a personal experience (not abt ricks!): i had heard many stories of how old city people were dangerous n unreliable. but way bak in 1994 i was working part time for Godrej, canvassing for their products door to door. my territory was old city n i had to traverse galli-galli searching for shops n offices. initially i was scared. but when ever i needed directions, any and everybody i asked was the most helpful. some even sent kids along with me to see me to my destination correctly! thats one myth abt old city busted for me! i never found warmer souls elsewhere.

its true- real hyderabad resides in the old city.

salam, namaste, hello...etc.

It feels sooo good to hear hyderabadi stories. I left our noble HYD about 5 years ago and i miss it terribly. I would have to say, i agree with all of you. I had an accident back like...gosh! 7 years ago. The accident happened around the sabgi mandi. on my dad's scooter. So the durrashawar hospital was near. There was a guy who told my dad to follow on his scooter and he took me in an autoriksha. Well we reached the hospital and i got stiched up and every thing. The guy was so helpful and paid the auto's fair too.

Now i am in US. Helping out someone over here is a huge risk. As you all heard of sueing on stupid littel things! exept that, there was one incident i would like to say to you. My cousin works in American Airlines. His co-worker was driving down a highway and he saw a car pulled aside. So he got off to help. He was tricked. He person inside the supposedly broken car had a gun and pointed at him saying give him all the money he had. Not a lot of people carry cash over here only credit card. So he didnt had any money so he was shot :( ..

So you all....or i should say....we all are very very proud to have a city like hyderabad, where people are still generous and helpful.

another unforgettable incident:

back in 1995, my younger brother had an attack of fits near ameerpet busstop and collapsed. passers by relieved him, but my brother was still woozy n drowsy. some one checked my brother's bus-pass, found our address and brought him home in an auto-rick (we are at secbad).

by the time we recovered from the shock, that samaritan disappeared. we neither cud thank him nor reimburse the auto fare. even my brother remembers nothing about the person. :(

Lunch@AsliB? If u were to take me out for lunch, u'd be poorer by a few bucks and I'd be responsible for that. Thats not very good karma, so there!

And if I were to ask somebody for lunch and if I got turned down, the karma theory would cease to apply. As far as I'm concerned it would just be a plain and simple case of 'Good riddance, to bad rubbish'...!!! :-)

Dont mind being poor... To have lunch with fellow "Theory of Karma" proponent.. I wouldnt miss it for anything. Anyway, when I said lunch I was refering to the "Chaat bandi" and you thought "Krishna Oberoi" , NO... I dont know you like that. Also, Money is a worldly thing, saints like me dont think about it. Hahhaha!

'Good riddance, to bad rubbish'... Ouch.. hurts like hell... Maybe a "no thanks" would have been appropriate... :(

Chaat Bandi???????? lol.........Amrika jaake aap Hyderabadi pana nahin bhoole! Imagine the setting, discussing the nitty-gritties of the Karma theory over mouthfuls of Bhel Puri! Interesting! And hey, I believe in going dutch with friends, so u won't be left a high and dry person! :-)

If I were to initiate a 'lets meet up for lunch/coffee' and I was (rudely) turned down(irrespective of the gender), without being given a good reason for it then I'd just adopt the 'good riddance to bad rubbish' attitude. I'm not rude to people, so I don't believe in putting up with the same.

dont u know...the most profound phoilosophy and ideologies evolve and are discussed in "lowly" settings like smoky cafes...and chaat bandis?
in 5-star settings the person wud be too busy trying to "post-mortem" the meal with forks n knifes!

I'm willing to treat Mrs CtrlAltDel, master CtrlAltDel and you to lunch, in keeping with our Hyderabadi culture of Mehmaan-nawaazi. Afterall, you can take the girl out of Hyderabad but not the Hyderabadi out of the girl! :-) [ I'm still in my dear city but was away for sometime ]

Interesting indeed! Bhel Porri and Karma kinda go togather, thats what I was suggesting. And I think going DUTCH is fair.

Ctrl, Azazel, Johnny, Bimbette, Prince, 57J we can all meet at some bandi to talk about KARMA and have some world famous chaat. And the rest of Fullhyd.com are invited too. Any suggestions? I heard the bandi's near mahankali police station is secunderabad are nice..

57J, sorry I digress but it was something I couldnt avoid.

All in all... Bimbette KARMA bolke bura fasi yaar. Bechari... reason dete-dete thak gayi. But it was fun to trouble her ! :P

Anyway, Mera din bhi kabhi ayinga.... Jis din mere ku koi pakad-pakad ke "G" pe laat maringa... (I am trying my hand at hyderabadi after a long time so bear with me please). :D

Bimbette wrote:Afterall, you can take the girl out of Hyderabad but not the Hyderabadi out of the girl!

Well said... Being Hyderabadi is a state of mind... its an attitude... and I dont think anybody who grew up here can ever let it go. Its too cool... 8)

~badmash~

PS: I dont know how many of these impromptu meetings do actually happen, but lets see where this goes! And I do beleive it is KARMA that gets people togather...

Invitation

by Five7Jaan » Tue Mar 30, 2004 10:58 pm

Its aight for using this forum for inviting each other to lunch. I am honored you picked mine, although the banter was not at all monotonous.

And, why can I not trust Asli's invitation? Hmm, let me guess, there bound to be some badmashi! Hehe...joking :P

Would love to come but cannot. Am not in the city now. :)

Bimbette, I think part of it is: SOF: Start Of F?

EOF = End Of F?

I think its the list of the people having lunch date with you, one at a time. Atleast that is the gist I understood. Boys! Hmph.

Awww.. I was hoping to see you. No badmashi this time... Anyway, I strike when people are unaware, when their guards are low. so the effect is maximum with minimum effort. Sun-Tzu "The art of war"...

But anyway I look forward to seeing other people on this board, If I ever get to.. It would be cool.
