 why not women can flirt ,

 Whats wrong in flirting? its just harmless fun as long as both the \'target\' doesn\'t mind it!
 
 Anyway, i dont agree that men never flirt. in fact i have observed that men flirt more openly and consistantly.
 
 i believe friendly flirting lightens the atmosphere at work and is the foundation of either a great friendship or a great \"relationship\". no harm done either way.

arre yaar...does it matter where i or we work....? flirting occurs everywhere...from governemnt offices to IT MNCs...
 the difference lies in how its percieved by others.
 It shud never be taken seriously.
 
 Remember: Flirting shud be decent and within limits else it qualifies as \"Eve Teasing\" or \"Sexual Harrassment\".
 
 Problems occur coz most people dont know where the \"Limit\" lies.

I second you on that. Flirting, according to me is an art..and incompetent artistes are quite large in number as compared to the better exponents. Its a wonderful mental exercise and a destressor...but as pointed out earlier...we shouldnt veer away from the line of decency.

Well, it is rather important to know the sorta places u work cuz this side of the pond, people are very professional. I haven\'t seen or heard of places where it happens. N lotta people second this view. Now, before u go off n ask me wot sorta places I\'ve worked at....I feel it\'s prolly a cultural thing, which is prolly why people on this board (I\'m guessing that most of u work in the sub -continent) just assume that it \'happens everywhere\' and is \'acceptable\'. Not sure if \'this side of the pond\' is full of unsophisticated, unprofessional masses, as against \'that side of the pond\' which only has professional \'spick n span\' individuals. We do hear a lot about corporate scandals (maybe that\'s part of professionalism too), and from our exposure to TV sitcoms/serials (which can be taken as an approximate reflection of the society) we do realize that workplace flirting is commonplace on \'that side of the pond\' as well. So much for professionalism.
 
 Btw, a lot of work is moving here, and if the general impression about us were to be that of an uncivilized, unprofessional lot, the above is not bound to happen. Luckily, but for a few expat desis with over-inflated egos, the general perception is that people out here are as good (or as bad) as people over there.
 
 Having said the above, I do agree that workplace flirting is not a very desirable thing.

I said earlier n I reiterate - exposure to TV sitcoms/serials CANNOT be taken as an approximate reflection of the society. I was only giving a perspective that is a lil closer to reality than the percieved one.

 The very fact that u make a statement like that only highlights the fact that u r ill-informed. Trust me my friend, if u\'ve been around a lil\' bit, u wudn\'t be sayin it.
 
 I gather from msgs posted on other boards that ppl r here to make friends, apart from exchanging views. The intention isn\'t to pass judgement on ppl back home, but merely highlight the cultural differences.
 
 As for your barb on inflated-egos, I\'ll jus let it pass.
