Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today reacted to Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao's appeal for, and displeasure expressed on the delay in, transfer of 160 acres of defence land for development works in Hyderabad.
Sitharaman said that defence officials would work out the details quickly to finalize the transfer.
Her response assumes significance as KTR had appealed to the Centre multiple times for the transfer of the land. On Monday he expressed a sort of displeasure over the inordinate delay in the transfer of the land that is needed for building two skyways in the city. Reacting swiftly to his tweet, Sitharaman tweeted that the Centre had no second thoughts on the issue.
"The issue is being looked into by our officials, and we will work out the details to finalize the transfer," she said.
To this KTR tweeted his thanks to Sitharaman. "I look forward to an expeditious resolution in the interest of the people of Hyderabad," he said.
The Telangana government plans to make use of the defence ministry land for development works in the city and give the ministry land in another place in return. This is a model that has been followed by the defence ministry with other states like Karnataka, and KTR sought the same for Telangana.
