Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar today said that the Election Commission had appointed Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda as a special ambassador for the Mahabubnagar district for the upcoming Telangana elections to increase the voting ratio in the district.
Talking to mediapersons today, the CEO said, "We had already appointed noted personalities such as Sania Mirza, V V S Laxman, lyricist Goreti Venkanna and Pullela Gopichand as poll ambassadors, and Vijay Devarakonda will be a powerful addition to that list."
Speaking of the arrangements being made to help physically challenged people vote in the elections, Kumar said that special arrangements were being made for them including provision of wheel chairs and ramp facilities at the polling booths. 10,000 to 15,000 wheel-chairs would be arranged at the various polling stations in several segments. To encourage the physically challenged voters to vote, the EC had set up some state icons, and some icons at the district levels, too.
A separate toll free number 1950 had also been set up for physically challenged voters, the CEO said.
