Telangana caretaker Minister T Harish Rao today termed the Congress public meeting in Medchal on Friday addressed by UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and AICC chief Rahul Gandhi a damp squib.
Talking to mediapersons at Addakula in Mahbubnagar district, along with MP Jithender Reddy and others, Rao said that Sonia Gandhi just read out a script written by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, who he claimed gave money to the Congress and thereby had a say in distributing tickets and in the Mahakootami affairs.
The Medchal meeting also once again proved that TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao was the only person who could save Telangana, and that no other party had any commitment towards the state's welfare and progress, Rao said.
Rao pooh-poohed Sonia Gandhi's remarks that the KCR regime had failed to meet the expectations of the people. "Everybody knows what the TRS has done in the past four-and-a-half years. The Mahakootami leaders cannot convince the people with their false agendas and manifestos, and will be roundly rejected by the Telangana people. It is also telling that Sonia Gandhi has said that the Congress on coming to power will offer separate status to AP. Both Telugu states need special status, and Gandhi confining herself to saying that she will give it to only AP shows that the Congress is not in favour of Telangana's development and welfare," he said.
Rao also took on Chandrababu Naidu again. "Naidu wrote letters to the Centre against Telangana's irrigation projects and is now trying to come in the way of its progress in another way in the guise of the elections. The TRS will however retain power and complete the projects," he said.
Separately, in Jagtial, Nizamabad MP K Kavitha too accused the Congress leadership of showing step-motherly attitude towards Telangana. She too said that Sonia Gandhi favoured special status to AP but decided not to accord the same to Telangana, which showed how the Congress did not care about Telangana.
"TRS MPs staged protests repeatedly in Parliament for our demands, and Sonia Gandhi sitting in the front row did not react," she said. "Sonia Gandhi talks something in Delhi and says something else in Hyderabad. And it is not clear why she spoke about neighbouring states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and AP. The Congress alliance has always been focusing on irrelevant things, and ignoring actual Telangana issues."
