Telangana Withdraws From Srisailam Deal, Slams KRMB

The implication of Telangana's action will be that AP cannot draw water for its Rayalaseema projects through Pothireddypadu.
Hyderabad | 9th October 2017
Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today declared that the state was walking out of a deal to maintain the water level at 854 feet in the Srisailam dam.

He also lodged a complaint with the Centre against the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) for "showing partisan attitude" that hurt Telangana with regard to drawing waters from Srisailam for the Nagarjunasagar dam.

In a letter to Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari, Rao expressed dissatisfaction at the functioning of the Board and accused it of not fixing the telemetry machines at the Pothireddypadu project. Also, while the Andhra Pradesh government was drawing waters from projects illegally, the KRMB remained a mute spectator, he alleged. He also informed the minister that the Board had changed the details of the water drawn by the Andhra Pradesh government, and claimed that the Board was clearly doing undue favors to Andhra Pradesh.

He warned of serious repercussions in the future if AP indulged in irregularities continuously. He also urged the Centre to take initiatives to protect the interests of Telangana on the usage of river waters.

The implication of Telangana's action in walking out of the deal will be that AP cannot draw water for its Rayalaseema projects through Pothireddypadu.
