Senior TDP leader and former minister Devineni Rajasekhar alias Nehru, who had been ailing for some time due to kidney problems, passed away early this morning.

Nehru was discharged from Care Hospital only two days ago. However, he suffered a stroke at 4 am and was rushed again to the Care. He breathed his last there at 4:25 am.

He is survived by a son and a daughter.

Devineni entered politics after the late NTR founded TDP, and was elected from the Kankipadu Assembly constituency five times and from Vijayawada East once. He worked as the Minister for Education in the NTR Cabinet. Later he joined the Congress. However, in August last year, he returned to the TDP mending his differences with Chandrababu Naidu.

Nehru played a key role in active politics in his three-decade political career.

On receipt of the information of his demise, Devineni Uma, senior TDP leaders and Nehru's followers rushed to Hyderabad. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his shock and grief over the sudden demise.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao also expressed his condolences over the demise of Nehru, and recalled his association with the latter.
