Privilege Motion By Renuka Chowdhury Against Rijiju

The Congress MP tabled a breach of privilege motion in the Rajya Sabha against Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for likening her to "Soorpanakha" on Facebook.
Hyderabad | 9th February 2018
Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury tabled a breach of privilege motion in the Rajya Sabha against Union Minister Kiren Rijiju likening her to "Soorpanakha" on Facebook.

She also called the video "highly objectionable".

The vide has disappeared from Rijiju's Facebook page, though he did not say anything sounding repentent.

For the uninitiated, Rijiju posted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks in the Rajya Sabha against Chowdhury - where, in response to Chowdhury's loud and mocking laughter in the middle of his speech, which attracted admonishing from even the Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, he said that he was reminded of the '80s' serial Ramayana - on his Facebook page accompanied by a gif of Soorpanakha cackling in an evil manner in the '80s' Ramayana serial.

The incident led to strong protest from the Congress, which said the PM had lowered the dignity of his office. The BJP countered that it was the Congress MP that had insulted the PM by laughing in the middle of his speech.
