In a big relief to the public, the Telangana government today issued orders regulating the parking fees in commercial establishments.
Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar issued orders to this effect today. The orders will come into force with effect from April 1.
As per the orders, no parking fee is to be collected from any person up to the first 30 minutes. No parking fee can be collected from him even after 30 minutes and up to 1 hour if a person produces a bill of any amount proving that he shopped in a mall/multiplex.
For a person who has parked his vehicle for more than one hour but produces a bill / movie ticket of an amount more than the parking fee, the parking fee will not be applicable, the order also said.
As per building rules, an adequate number of off-street parking spaces have to be made available by the owners of commercial establishments / malls / multiplexes to meet the demand for parking generated by their employees and visitors. However sizeable parking fees are being collected in most commercial establishments irrespective of the duration of the parking or the purpose of the visit. For that reason, in order to regulate and rationalize the parking fees being collected in commercial establishments, and to also prevent the misuse of the parking spaces by outsiders, the government was issuing these orders, Arvind Kumar said.
