The main opposition party in Telangana, the Congress, received another jolt as its MLA from Nakrekal, Chirumarti Lingaiah, decided to quit the party and join the ruling TRS.
This is the second blow in a week to the Congress after two of its sitting MLAs, Rega Kantha Rao and Atram Sakku, decided to quit the party recently.
Lingaiah met Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and expressed his desire to join the ruling party. Minister from Suryapeta district G Jagadish Reddy played a pivotal role in convincing Lingaiah to join the TRS.
Following the development, Lingaiah has gone into hiding. He has also switched off his phone.
The decision by the two-time MLA has shocked his political mentors, the Komatireddy brothers. They had not only played an important role in getting the ticket for Lingaiah, they had also worked hard for his victory.
