The metro rail inaugural plaza at Miyapur station, which will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 28, embodies the heritage of Telangana yet sports a contemporary look.
An open monument accessible to all, the plaza is being touted as the city's new selfie spot after Tank Bund's Luv Hyderabad.
The plaza, located next to the entrance of the Miyapur station, is being developed by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL).
The plaza's three arches coming out of a water pond reflect the three metro rail corridors. Of varying heights (14 ft, 18 ft and 22 ft ), the arches are painted in a dab of blue, the colour dominant in HMRL's logo.
"The entire structure is being designed on an elliptical granite podium, with the oval shape signifying the closed loop system of the metro," explained HMRL MD N V S Reddy.
The stainless steel arch panels have been engraved with the unique features of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, and a comparison of the two iconic railways - the Nizam State Railway and the Hyderabad Metro Rail.
Similarly, the financial innovation, engineering excellence, advanced safety features, eco-friendly technologies, quality public spaces, and urban redesign and rejuvenation efforts associated with the Hyderabad Metro also briefly appear on the panels through stylized graphics.
The water pond below these steel panels adds to the structural form of the inaugural plaza. The inaugural plaque standing in the middle of the pond at the centre of the three arches will sport the latest 3D look rather than the conventional 2D design, states architect Shankar Narayan, who has designed the plaza and other facilities at Miyapur.
