Aggrieved by the traders offering very low prices, disgusted red chilli farmers on Wednesday set afire their stocks in front of the market yard in Malakpet.

Enraged by the apathy of the traders and officials, the farmers staged a rasta roko on the Malakpet-Dilsukhnagar highway and set their mirchi crop afire.

They demanded that the state government intervene in the gross injustice and help the farmers get remunerative prices for the red chilli crop.

As a result of the road blockade, the vehicular traffic on the highway came to a grinding halt, causing hardship to the road users.
