Leader Of Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir today sought an unconditional apology from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for not attending Dr B R Ambedkar's 127th birth anniversary celebrations today.
Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan along with former minister Sridhar Babu, Shabbir Ali said that while the entire nation paid tributes to the dalit leader, the TRS supremo, who had once promised to make a dalit the CM of the state, was sitting in his office instead.
"KCR should apologize to the nation as he failed to pay floral tributes to the Ambedkar statue and also failed to attend a seminar organized on this occasion in the state capital," Shabbir Ali said.
He said that the Chief Minister had also failed to attend the Babu Jagjivan Ram jayanthi celebrations on April 5, Mahatma Jyothi Rao Phule jayanthi celebrations on April 11, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad jayanthi celebrations on November 11th and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru jayanthi celebrations on November 14th. He accused KCR of breaking the tradition of celebrating and paying tributes to national heros, and exhibiting his dictatorial tendencies in the process.
Shabbir Ali also said that Dr Ambedkar had visualized reservations not just for SCs and STs but also for BCs and Muslims, so that all communities could grow equally in the country. But for the opposition from some leaders, there would have been a special category of reservations for Muslims long ago as proposed by Dr Ambedkar, he said.
On KCR's proposal to form a front against the Congress and the BJP, Shabbir Ali alleged that both KCR and Deve Gowda were known for their political opportunism. He pointed out that KCR had sailed with the Congress, the BJP and even the TDP in the three general elections since 2004. There was also no spontaneous support for the so-called people's front, he claimed.
Expelled Congress MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also separately questioned KCR's not paying tributes to Ambedkar.
