Chilakalguda police station sub-inspector Venkatadri has been suspended for allegedly demanding a bribe to return a two-wheeler recovered in a dacoity case.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar issued orders in this regard.
According to the information received, one Santhosh Kumar of Namalagundu of Secunderabad lodged a complaint with the Chilakalaguda police station on May 17 stating that his two-wheeler had been stolen. The police recovered the two-wheeler after 20 days at Kompally, and informed Santhosh.
Santosh told the police that he wanted to withdraw the case as it had turned out that his close relative had stolen the vehicle. Hiwever SI Venkatadri said that that was not possible and that a case would be filed against the thief. The SI also asked for a bribe to hand over the two-wheeler.
Santhosh, along with his uncle Srinivas Goud, then approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials. Upon receiving the complaint ACB officials issued notices under Section 41 CrPC to Venkatadri and constable Rajesh. The ACP also submitted a report to the City Police Commissioner after the inquiry.
Based on the ACB report, Anjani Kumar issued suspension orders for Venkatadri.
