Expressing happiness over the Central government giving its nod for the final environmental clearance for the Kaleshwaram project, Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Friday said that the Centre's move had cleared all the hurdles that were delaying the project from becoming operational.
Terming the final clearance as a tight slap to the opposition, Rao, who is currently in Delhi, said that the nod was the result of persistent efforts on the part of the Telangana government.
Once operational, the Kaleshwaram project will cater to the irrigation needs of eight districts of North Telangana. The project will lift waters from the Godavari river to other districts in the project's vicinity, irrigating 18.25 lakh acres of land, and stabilizing another 18.82 lakh acres of land by lifting the Medigadda waters.
